I am sharing a special meditation today called "Calm Meditation." It is designed to align with our most positive energy. This type of meditation is guided to help the energy calm down and give yourself permission to let go of negative emotions. Which part of your body tends to hold negative emotions? By taking the time to practice this guided meditation, you will increase your peacefulness.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month and there is a lot for us to celebrate. We’ve come a long way since the days of routine confinement and ostracization of mental health patients. Today, while there is much room for improvement there are many areas where we have made light-years of progress in a very short time.

Here are some of the areas where massive steps forward have been made:

Conversations are Happening

Companies, schools, police forces and other institutions are discussing ways to improve the mental health of their employees, customers and stakeholders. Social media outlets have made changes to their interfaces in reaction to reports that layouts were damaging the mental health of users. People are talking about mental health more than ever and, more importantly, people are listening.

Inclusiveness is on the Rise

More than ever, those with diagnosed mental health conditions are working, studying and living in mainstream society. Reasonable accommodations are being made in offices, classrooms and throughout our communities to make it easier for those with mental health conditions to not only survive but to thrive.

Support Organizations are Flourishing

Those on the autism spectrum, suffering from bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions are no longer alone. There has never been a better time for people with mental health challenges to feel supported.

Let’s keep the progress up as there is still a lot of scope for us to get better at accepting and supporting those experiencing mental health issues and their loved ones.

Success in a relationship starts with the relationship with you. It is you self-honesty, accountability, maturity, willingness to laugh at yourself and practice non-defensive communication which can make the difference in relationship success with your loved one.
Many problems in a relationship occur because we are so locked into our own agenda and our own viewpoint that we don’t listen to our partner. Often communication turns into angry accusations and a standoff between partners.
The following are some suggestions to improve your relationship:
1. Listen with the “third ear” trying to understand vs. being
understood. Taking in the totality of the person, the voice tone,
the physical posture, the emotions and not just the words.
2. Be in the moment when the person is speaking not in the past
or in the future. Listen to the person, not to your inner chatter.
3. Focus on a feeling of love. It leads to openness and not
defensiveness. Being loving and understanding can break
barriers.
4. Validate what you hear.
5. Try to see humor in situations.
6. Practice calm self-expression without accusations. A good rule
of thumb: use the I when you express your needs, I.e.: I feel
hurt when you _____________________.
7. Breathe and if you need to take a break from the conversation,
take a time out to re-center yourself.
8. Don’t hesitate to apologize when you are wrong, it can break
down barriers.
