Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, ACOG has been the country’s leading medical voice about the importance of understanding how a COVID-19 vaccine would affect pregnant patients, and has actively opposed the exclusion of pregnant and lactating patients from vaccination trials and recommendations.

Today's federal court decision on mifepristone represents a victory for patients and for dedicated clinicians working to provided needed care without unnecessary exposure of patients, families, and healthcare team members. https://bit.ly/3iZrvaJ

SisterSong, New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP), and and the Council of University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology joined ACOG as plantiffs in this case.

Mifepristone is a safe medication. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's in-person dispensing requirements provide no medical benefit and needlessly threatens patients and clinicians, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are relieved our members and their patients will no longer face this burden for abortion care.

FDA's burdensome in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone has had a disproportionate effect on communities hit hardest by COVID-19, including communities of color who already face existing inequities and structural barriers to care.

Suspending the REMS requirement for mifepristone for early pregnancy termination represents a necessary step forward in our collective work toward health equity during this unprecedented time of pandemic.

We are disappointed the injunction does not cover women experiencing miscarriage and clinicians treating them, increasing risk for COVID-19 exposure and potential harm during an already painful time. ACOG will continue advocating for removal of these restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read our full statement: https://bit.ly/3iZrvaJ

ACOG’s updated Committee Opinion 782: Prevention of Group B Streptococcal Early-Onset Disease in Newborns includes new recommendations on group B strep (GBS) universal screening, expanded recommendations regarding women with penicillin allergies, as well as additional practice updates.

Guidance has been created in consultation with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and replaces CDC’s 2010 GBS guidelines. CDC plans to archive its 2010 GBS guidelines when updated guidance from ACOG and AAP are all available.

CDC, AAP and ACOG have worked together with other peer organizations on GBS prevention for many years and new guidance represents both progress and continued partnerships between these groups.
