How do the righteous write? The sample written below is that of Rabbi Lazer Brody who translated the works of Rabbi Shalom Arush in The Garden of Gratitude, a supreme spiritual rendering of how to be thankful for all of Hashem's blessings. There are many types of spiritual handwritings. What impresses me most about the writing of Rabbi Lazer Brody (whom I have met several times when he was in Florida) is how he 'walks the walk and talks the talk'. Lazer's words while simple, are profound and his teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslev who taught simplicity in emunah and faith in G-d are transmitted by Lazer in an honest, straight-forward, genuine fashion. His writing is legible, unpretentious, clearly articulated and is devoid of embellishment, fancy script or exaggeration. The writing, like the person are in harmony with each other. No hidden agenda here but a clear path to G-d. Thank you Rabbi for all the books you have written...

Bob Dylan's writing below is from his original work while writing his song Blowin In The Wind from a book I bought No Direction Home which filmed the documentary for PBS and followed with a book of the same title. One can see in his writing the irregularity of the line, the printed style and downhill slant all which point up his changing, unpredictable, moodiness. However, the force, strength, persistence and desire to follow his own muse gave us the iconic Dylan we all love. While he followed Woody Guthrie and later found his own voice, most musicians including the Beatles, The Boss, Bono and others credit him for leading the way. And NO, he was not the "voice of the generation" as he denies, but the voice of his own inner search for expression, freedom and experiential wandering. Does this undulating, wavering handwriting look like a leader. No, it is the handwriting of a creative individual who can barely find his own way, yet alone yours.

The handwriting of Whitney Houston shows all the choppy, irregular, scattered, erratic script of the artist who lost her life to drugs. The toxicology report found co***ne and other drugs in her system. Very sad that so many have lost their lives to these substances. One can see the sad face drawing underneath her last name (bottom of script)

Mad Men's John Hamm may be the hottest property on AMC's Sunday night TV. His natural handwriting full of entanglements, loops, turns and changeable lines are not representative of his cool, calculated, calm charm as displayed by his character Don Draper. His writing is more emotional, passionate and in touch with his feelings, as opposed to his TV persona. What they do have in common (his handwriting and his TV persona) is that they are both veiled, secretive, and protective...Hmmmmm

One of the first love stories for Bob Dylan was his relationship with Suze Rotolo as autographed on his album cover. While has handwriting has grown and changed over the years, the essence of his personality and brilliant songwriting and drawing below of "the tracks" with its pink, red and blue hues is classic Dylan. His sensual pen pressure (dark), irregular rhythm (changeable disposition), undulating base line (line on which the letters sit) reveal a restless, wandering, man. The open, full, round, large loops in B (Bob) D (Dylan) are reflective of his love orientation; meaning his passionate need for companionship. This particular signature shows a need for individuality, independence and freedome of space, and artistic expression. It says, come close but I will do what I want. It is unconventional, unpredictable and undulating. It is due to these qualites and need for change as seen in his writing that we are still able to enjoy his art.

Below on Blue lined Paper is the handwriting of a young, emotional Elizabeth Taylor. The lower zone letters (y, g) interfere with the line below indicating boundary problems. Eight marriages, twice to Richard Burton portray an inability to wait, impulsiveness and a strong "feeling type" with passion that cannot wait. Although surely the most beautiful woman in the world, her need for love and attention was so great that she was unable to curb her physical appetites. Her strong rightward flowing letters show her humanitarian desires to help others and much generosity which was well documented in her non-judgmental attitudes toward Rock Hudson, Montgomery Clift as well as her friendship with many who were of alternative lifestyles.

Hugh Laurie from the popular show HOUSE, plays Dr. House with the satiric wit, the cranky sarcastic humor of the intellectual who knows it all. His bending, winding, twisting and turning handwriting reveals his quick, quirky personality adept at turning any argument into his winning corner. While he plays a doctor on TV his real father was in fact a doctor. A British born comedy actor he has made it big on TV. No one uses Oscar Wilde wit better than Dr. House. It would appear that he and his writing are one. His facial expressions, lovable arrogance and flawed personality on TV are revelatory in his writing which takes on a life of its own. It is unusual, unique and follows no convential lines of handwriting. That is the good news.

I just love the sweet, conventional handwriting of Betty White. Such a genuine person as reflected in her writing. Cursive handwriting of socially likeable, agreeable and charming woman. All the letters are connected, the pen pressure is even (easy disposition) and her connecting strokes are garland (receptive).
