Horse Tip:
Do you ever wonder if your halter is on right? The picture below shows the anatomy of the horse's nasal bone. As you can see, the closer to the front of the mouth or incisive bone, there is no underlying support.
The picture below shows the (KO) incorrect placement on the left side, and the right side shows the (OK) correct way to place the halter so as not to put pressure on the unsupported portion of the nasal bone.
A helpful tip is to place your hand just at or slightly above the nostril (yes, thumb and 4 fingers lying palm down). If you place the nose band of the halter above your hand, that is a great starting point. In addition to the nose band, look at the horse head picture and notice the correct placement of the halter under the back of the cheeks. The application applies to the nylon and rope halters.
