Arden Courts - ProMedica Memory Care Community (Avon) raised more than five hundred dollars benefitting the Alzheimer's Association thanks to Senior Food Service Coordinator, Nany Gierwielaniec!

Ms. Gierwielaniec has been conducting summer-fall fundraisers since 2012, this year being another success. Incorporating as much local fresh produce into the daily menu is important for our residents, while the remaining surplus is used in the Lobby Farmer's Market!

Thank you to all who participated in this year's fundraiser for the cause.

Residents of Arden Courts - ProMedica Memory Care Community (Avon) happily welcomed Elvis into their homes earlier this month! Rob Lutz, a professional vocalist and impersonator, performed popular hits such as Love Me Tender and Suspicious Minds as Elvis himself! In true Elvis fashion, white scarves were given out as the ladies cooed! Residents remarked, "It felt like Elvis was really here!"

Program Services Coordinator, Georgann Palomba, was so impressed with the performance that she hopes to bring Mr. Lutz back as Neil Diamond!

Arden Courts - ProMedica Memory Care Community (Avon) welcomed Christine Cummings, President and Co-Founder of A Place Called Hope, located in Killingworth, CT, along with several of her rescued birds of prey! A Place Called Hope is a non-profit rehabilitation and education center for birds of prey including eagles, hawks, owls, falcons and more.

Ms. Cummings' educational presentation included a variety of interesting and surprising facts about the birds. Residents as well as visiting family members were eager for the opportunity to see these wild animals up close!

Arden Courts - ProMedica Memory Care Community (Avon) enjoyed an afternoon of musical healing with Noelle Grieco of CT Reiki and Sound Therapy. Crystal singing bowls, an ocean drum, buffalo and elk drums, and chimes were all used to produce calming beautiful sounds. Ms. Grieco explained the benefits of sound therapy and how it induces relaxation, which promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. We're excited to offer this program in the future!

The residents and staff at Arden Courts - ProMedica Memory Care Community (Avon) enjoyed a week full of peace, love, and the classic music of the 1960s as they celebrated “Woodstock Week”!

Every day of the week residents got to participate in Woodstock-themed activities, starting Monday off strong with tie-dying t-shirts and matching tie-dye sherbert! Musician Tony Rarus performed an outdoor concert Tuesday evening for residents and family members followed by Wednesday’s featured entertainer, Jose Paulo, and a sweet treat- ‘Wavy Gravy’ ice cream cake. Guitarist and vocalist Tom Stankus shared his memories of attending Woodstock on Thursday while our dining team made heart-shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, an actual snack that was served to the thousands of people at the festival, due to a food shortage. We ended our week with a barbecue and were serenaded by special guest Andrew Diamond, on the ukulele!

Residents enjoyed the festivities of the week, starting the following week off feeling a little “groovier”.

We welcome you to drop in Arden Courts ProMedica Memory Care Community in Avon, for the opportunity to purchase fresh produce for a good cause! It is a daily, summer-long effort to buy local and eat healthy while supporting the Alzheimer's Association's 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer's. Arden Courts senior food service coordinator, Nancy Gierwielaniec, was inspired to have a farmer's market in the building starting back in 2012. Ms. Gierwielaniec says, " We always try to incorporate as many local fresh vegetables into our daily menu as possible supporting our local farmers’ market. With all proceeds donated to the Alzheimer's Association it is a win-win for everyone. " She added, "Visitors, family members and friends enjoy selecting fresh produce for a good cause, and we are happy to do our part."
