Your pelvic floor consists of 14 muscles that support your organs and stabilize your core. This hammock-like muscle is just like any other muscle, it needs to lengthen in order to strengthen. But the difference between this muscle and, say, your bicep is that your pelvic floor is centrally located and greatly impacted during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. So you can imagine WHY this muscle is so important to understand. Your pelvic floor impacts how the rest of your body functions, how your core engages, and can be the cause of hip discomfort, prolapse, Diastasis recti, incontinence, difficulty going to the bathroom, pain during s*x… the list goes on.
Understanding your pelvic floor is CRUCIAL during any point of life, but especially when you’re pregnant, postpartum or peri/menopausal. During these stages of motherhood, your pelvic floor drastically changes. But that doesn’t necessarily mean during these stages our pelvic floor is weak… and KEGELS are not always the answer!!!! During our workshop in November, we will dive a whole lot deeper into this and provide you with specific tips to understand what your pelvic floor might need and techniques to help you support it!
