This week, OIC’s ME/NH/VT sales rep David Irving lectured at St. Vincent Community College on St. Vincent and the Grenadines about employment opportunities in the Medical Equipment Repair industry and also within the Medical Equipment Sales industry. He demonstrated on the Haag-Streit BM900 Slit Lamp, covering the history of the slit lamp in general, its proper use, and why it is used. He then took the slit lamp apart and reassembled it while performing general maintenance and pointing out common issues and their solutions. Students were allowed to use the slit lamp as well.
Dr. Dagianis, MD, of Nashua Eye joined David on this trip and lectured multiple times to the School of Nursing, and to the Community College on advanced topics ranging from glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, high blood pressure, and dry eye, to more basic information such as proper technique to apply eye drops, treatment for blepharitis, etc. He also performed exams on a handful of patients who either have glaucoma or are glaucoma suspect at the Young Island Resort.
Dr. Dagianis started his lectures by asking the students what they wanted to learn about! Some of the replies were unexpected but fun, such as comparing a human’s vision to a cat’s vision. Each lecture was followed by an opportunity for any student to meet with David and Dr. Dagianis personally. Because of this, they have a few students scheduled for eye exams when they return next May for the clinical and surgical aspect of their Eye Mission.
Much ground work was done between lectures to organize the upcoming Eye Mission happening in May of this year!
