NEEDED Reminder!
"Rest is a divine right of every human being who’s breathing. I believe resting allows us to tap into the deep dream space that opens us to imagining the world we want to see, one that centers justice, equality, love, and healing".

Tricia Hersey, creator of The Nap Ministry, shows us how we can revolutionize rest and reclaim our full humanity.

I just attended an intensive ACT week-long training with Dr. Steven Hayes. Here is an excerpt from this wonderful article:

"It's time for us to put down the idea that we have to think well of ourselves at all times to be mature, successful, functional, mentally healthy individuals. Indeed, this toxic idea can foster a kind of narcissistic ego-based self-story that is bound to blow up on us. Instead of increasing self-esteem content what we need to do is increase self-compassion as the context of all we do. That deflates ego-based self-stories, as we humbly accept our place as one amongst our fellow human beings, mindfully acknowledging that we all have self-doubt, we all suffer, we all fail from time to time, but none of that means we can't live a life of meaning, purpose, and compassion for ourselves and others".

Is Self-Compassion More Important Than Self-Esteem?

Always a good reminder as we head back to school.

Always a good reminder as we head back to school.

This is how we heal the “mean girls” culture: we hold, we include, we love, we empower, and we regard our girls.

To know true joy, one must also know pain. Sensitivity has its own beauty.

“If you are a sensitive person, your body and mind respond more to the world around you, You respond more to heartbreak, pain, and loss, but you also respond more to beauty, new ideas, and joy.”

Procrastination is something that most of us can identify with. What if our own self-narrative is causing us to continue procrastinating?

Instead of continuing to beat your head against the procrastination wall, how about trying something new?

This is a great article about anger and how it can be productive at times. Below is a great excerpt from anger expert Raymond Novaco if you do not have the time to read the entire interview:

'We’re hardwired for anger. It’s the emotional component of the fight-and-flight response and has lots of functionality. It energizes us when we’re faced with obstacles and needs to persevere. It’s a relevance detector. If you start feeling angry, your system is telling you there’s something happening that’s relevant to you and your needs. It has communicative value in all kinds of interactions. Some people don’t get around to saying they’re bothered by something or there’s something wrong, either in a relationship or a work situation, until they get angry and express it. It also has potentiating value. All of the social movements I’ve seen in my life come about because of anger. It helps people take charge of dealing with injustice or victimization. Those are the positive, adaptive functions of anger. Unfortunately, it’s got a lot of other functions. Anger narrows our attention in a way that prevents us from processing other mitigating information. We have trouble viewing a situation in a different way of seeing it’s not quite what we think it is. Anger has a social distancing function, too. It’s an ego defense, acting as a type of character armor, pushing people away and keeping them at a distance so their vulnerabilities are protected.

Anger isn’t always a problem. But when it becomes too frequent and too quick to arise, when it lasts too long, and when it comes out as physically aggressive and violent behavior, it’s a problem.'

"A recent study found that teens who spent more time outdoors during the pandemic fared better on many mental health indicators than those who spent less time outdoors—especially if they lived in an urban community."

People who spent more time in nature these past two years have been happier and less stressed.
