🇺🇸❤️ Memorial Day was a meaningful celebration at Ganzhorn Suites.

Residents helped create festive Memorial Day decorations and enjoyed a classic treat—root beer floats! It was a wonderful way to honor the holiday while spending time together.

This year, we also launched a Veterans Club led by our Maintenance Director, Sally Coleman, an Army veteran herself. Each month, the group gathers to learn about military heroes, share stories, and enjoy great conversation. We always begin with the Pledge of Allegiance, making it a special time to reflect on service, sacrifice, and patriotism.

We are grateful for the veterans in our community and proud to honor them throughout the year. ❤️🤍💙

☀️ Sunny days are some of our favorites at The Ganzhorn Suites!

This week, residents spent time outdoors filling bird feeders and enjoying the peaceful beauty of our courtyards. 🐦 We also hosted a special “beach” themed sensory session where residents explored summertime through touch, smell, and sight — from soft sand and seashells to beach towels, sunglasses, and even the scent of suntan lotion. 🏖️

Activities like these help spark memories, encourage engagement, and bring lots of smiles to our community.

Residents recently enjoyed some of our favorite leisure activities — relaxing with personalized music through headphones and spending time with Frodo and Ann during pet therapy visits. Music can be a powerful tool in memory care, helping promote calm, comfort, connection, and joyful engagement through familiar songs and sounds. For some, it’s soothing; for others, it brings back treasured memories or simply creates a moment of happiness.

And of course, visits from Frodo and our other therapy pets always bring smiles, companionship, and plenty of love throughout the month. 🐾

At The Ganzhorn Suites, training goes beyond textbooks — it’s about building empathy and understanding.

As part of our orientation process, new team members participate in Dementia Live®, an immersive experience that helps simulate some of the physical, sensory, and cognitive challenges individuals living with dementia may face each day. Through this powerful exercise, staff gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of patience, communication, and compassionate care.

This hands-on experience has been part of orientation every other week for nearly five years, helping prepare our team to provide thoughtful, person-centered support to residents and families.

At The Ganzhorn Suites, we believe exceptional memory care begins with understanding the world through our residents’ eyes.

At The Ganzhorn Suites, we had a wonderful time celebrating Nurses Week and recognizing the incredible team members who provide compassionate care to our residents each and every day.

The week included a visit from Travelin' Tom's Coffee of the Chagrin Valley, sponsored by Cypress Hospice; a staff cookout where our leadership team cooked and served lunch, fun giveaways; and a little friendly competition as our households showed their unit pride by wearing assigned colors throughout the week.

A special shoutout to our Edgewater household (pink) for having the highest participation!

We are so grateful for the dedication, kindness, and hard work of our nursing team and all of the staff who make The Ganzhorn Suites Avon such a special place to call home.

This week at The Ganzhorn Suites of Avon, we celebrated Mother’s Day in style with not one, but two fabulous tea parties! 🌸☕💕

Residents and their guests enjoyed tea served in beautiful vintage teacups and saucers, along with a delicious assortment of sweet treats and goodies prepared by our amazing Nutrition team. Each lady received a pink wrist corsage, guests were given white corsages, and the gentlemen were honored with boutonnieres for the occasion.

The celebration also featured a wonderful entertainer who sang beloved songs, showcased vintage clothing and handbags, and invited residents to model an incredible collection of magnificent vintage hats.

Our residents stayed busy with some of our favorite enrichment programs this week.

First, we were thrilled to welcome a new guest, Ike Brooks! As a true baseball enthusiast, Ike took us on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. We spent the afternoon reminiscing about baseball greats, the history of Cleveland stadiums, and even some classic baseball tunes. 🎶⚾️ Ike had the whole group singing and humming along—it was a "grand slam" of an afternoon!

We also welcomed back one of our absolute resident favorites: the The Community Studio! 🖌️ This week, the instructors guided us through a brand-new technique for everyone to try. It’s always so inspiring to see the unique pieces our residents create when they get to experiment with new artistic tools.
