The focus in this Chiropractic office is on structure and its effect on the function of that structure. This is the reason we utilize Chiropractic X Ray analysis. We can see the effect of the ligaments on the vertebrae and how that effects the nervous system. It allows us to provide you with the most appropriate care for the many types of circumstances that occur in your spine. We develop an estimated amount of time your body and specific condition will take to move through the crisis stage of your symptoms. This estimated amount of time is based on the objective findings from your X-Ray, Thermal Scan, Physical Exam, and Chiropractic analysis. It is common for patients to experience a very acute decrease of symptoms within the first week or two of care. However true healing doesn’t take place until the tendons, ligaments, muscles, and most importantly, the nerves have had the proper amount of time to heal. The nerves then have to communicate with the end organs they innervate to gain proper control of that end organ. Your body was designed with a great intelligence that strives for health. The deep rooted desire makes substantial effort to continually adapt to the environment. Patients often want to know what is causing their symptoms, what the doctor will do about it, how long will it take and how much it will cost. The Gonstead Chiropractor utilizes this extensive type of analysis to answer the most common questions the patients have about their symptoms and current health status. The analysis at our clinic includes a patient consultation and Health History. The patient has the opportunity to explain to the Chiropractor what their symptoms are and how those symptoms have been affecting their lifestyle. Many times this information will give clues to the doctor where the primary segmental dysfunction is located. The patient will be given a physical exam to help determine what medical musculoskeletal conditions may be present. This includes orthopedic and neurological tests. These tests also help determine if the patient’s current presentation is safe enough for a specific anatomical chiropractic adjustment. If there are concerns at this point, the patient will be referred to another medical professional for concurrent care. If there are no concerns at this point that indicate it is not safe to adjust, the patient will then be scanned using Tytron Technologies thermal scanner. This is an inferred technology that is used to provide an overall picture of the patients’ nervous system function. The Doctor will then use a nervoscope to locate the specific nerve root that is being affected by the joint. The nervoscope tells the doctor where the difference in temperature is. The doctor will mark these nerves using a skin marking pencil. The doctor will utilize another inferred thermometer to determine which side of the spine is hotter or colder. This information is utilized to determine the length of time the joint has been dysfunctional. The doctor will then palpate the patients’ spine in those segments with the nerve involvement. Often these segments will be sore and tender even when the patient didn’t know the pain was there before the patient arrived at the office. If the patient’s spine shows indicators of subluxation, a joint dysfunction that is affecting the spinal nerve, then the patient will be prepared for X-rays of the spine. The doctor will place small round metallic BB’s on the area of the spine where the nerve interference is located to help identify those areas on the X-ray and X-ray images will be taken of the spine. The X-Rays provide a global image of how the adjustments will affect the entire spine and specific spinal segments analysis of the dysfunctional joint. This is the biomechanical approach to specific neurological chiropractic adjustments. The doctor will then study all the information gathered and prepare a specific care plan to the patient to get the patient out of pain. Once the pain is reduced, then a re-evaluation of the patient is taken which includes much of the same analysis, review of symptoms, orthopedic and neurological tests, thermography, chiropractic analysis, and then possible new X-rays depending on how different the findings of the re-evaluation are. If all the findings are reduced then the patient is either placed on a corrective plan or a supportive plan. The corrective plan includes less frequent office visits depending on the patient’s specific case. Because of the soft tissue involved in the subluxation including muscle, tendon, ligaments, and nerves, these often take more time to heal due to a decrease in vascular innervation of these structures. Just as a sprain ankle takes time to heal, so do the soft tissues of the spine. Many subluxations have been present for a long period of time and they can cause shortening and lengthening of ligaments in the segments. The supportive phase of care is reached to support what has been gained through the care process. Many times this is a once a month visit but can vary to every six to eight weeks depending on the individual case. The most import aspect of Gonstead analysis is the ability of the doctor to know when not to adjust and when the body is in the healing stages. The analysis of the nervous system aids the Gonstead Chiropractor is the decision. Chiropractic care is a healthy habit and just as most healthy habits are continual in nature, so is specific neurological chiropractic care. This office does not utilize any passive care on the patients such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation. We will however suggest active physical therapy to a local physical therapy office who will provide strengthening and stretching exercises to the patient. The doctor will also provide the patient with some exercises to do at home. If the patient is having difficulty completing the exercises then a professional who has more specific training in this area is utilized.
