“The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while you are alive, and die only when you are dead. To love, to be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity of the life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
Arundhati Roy

John La Farge - Autumn Scattering Leaves, 1900.

a reminder for tuesday 💆🏽‍♀️♥️ we are not our output. we are not what we produce. we are not how much we make or the legacies we attempt to build.

we are simply here.

and hopefully while we’re here, we are present for it.

“Each day is born with a sunrise
and ends in a sunset, the same way we
open our eyes to see the light,
and close them to hear the dark.
You have no control over
how your story begins or ends.
But by now, you should know that
all things have an ending.
Every spark returns to darkness.
Every sound returns to silence.
And every flower returns to sleep
with the earth.
The journey of the sun
and moon is predictable.
But yours,
is your ultimate
art.”

Happy Friday the 13th!

🔮Happy Friday The 13th🔮
Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13! Friday the 13th being associated with "bad luck" and "evil" is one of the most recognized superstitions in western culture and why just about every major office building and hotel omits adding a "13th floor" from their directory. Where does a fear of Friday the 13th come from in the first place?
It's difficult to pin down the origins and evolution of a superstition, but lots of it has to do with the root of all backwards, Woman suppressing/shaming/ and erasure of Goddess divinity. Stuart Vyse, a professor of psychology at Connecticut College in New London, said societies fear of Friday the 13th may be rooted in religious beliefs surrounding the 13th guest at the Last Supper... Judas, the apostle said to have betrayed Jesus and the crucifixion of Jesus on a Friday, which was known as hangman's day. 🤷🏽‍♀️ The combination of those factors produced a "sort of double whammy of 13 falling on an already nervous day," Vyse said.
However, author Donna Henes offers us a more insightful look she says: “Ironically, and in definite defiance of the laws of probability, the 13th day of the month is more likely to fall on a Friday than on any other day of the week. The precisely aligned pattern of our calendar days, weeks and months repeats itself exactly every 400 years. In that 400-year period there are 688 Friday the 13th’s! “ she says that up until the patriarchal revolution, both Fridays and 13s were held in the very highest esteem. “Both the day and the number were associated with the Great Goddesses, and therefore, regarded as the sacred essence of luck and good fortune.

Thirteen is certainly the most essentially female number — the average number of menstrual cycles in a year. The approximate number, too, of annual cycles of the moon. When Chinese women make offerings of moon cakes, there are sure to be 13 on the platter. Thirteen is the number of blood, fertility, and lunar potency. 13 is the lucky number of the Great Goddess✨

“May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.”
