JK9 Pet Services, LLC

JK9 Pet Services, LLC Offering a unique boarding style and personalized dog training tailored to the individual dog. If your dog likes people over other dogs, im the kennel for you!

I have over 15 years of dog training experience and participate in a variety of dog sports. I run a small-scale boarding kennel out of my home. My unique style focused on individual attention of each dog opposed to a group play setting. Dogs do not play with unfamiliar dogs here, so if that is what you're looking for I am likely not the right kennel for you. I also bring over 15 years of dog training experience to the table and my dogs participate in a wide variety of dog sports. Visit my website www.jk9pet.com for a complete pricing list, calendar, and for more information about me and my policies. Ive made some changes to my website! I removed all the photo galleries since it has become too difficult to constantly add to them for me now. They were pretty outdated. I have added an adoptable dogs page!!! Here you can go read a little more about any of the adoptable dogs that I have here for training to see if they would be a good fit for your home. This includes information i have on the dog plus any observations that I feel would be relevant. Rio has a little blurb on mt website now that you can check oit.

Adoptable dog Runty is settling in nicely and getting more comfortable with everything. He definitely has some physical limitations we will need to work on with him, including gaining some muscle and losing some weight. He has been improving with his mobility, but trimming his toenails still isn't happening. Hes very sweet, but we are trying not to traumatize him for a nail trim despite him really needing one. His goals are to just walk around and get his legs moving and some exercise right now and hes been doing very well with that. He even jogs a little bit im the yard already. Runty is available for adoption through Helping Hearts & Healing Tails Animal Rescue. I am still getting a feel for him, but so far hes pretty low key.

Adoptable dog Rio is getting used to the chickens and the side by side now and all the other random noises around her. He alert barks at things like a typical shepherd, but thats pretty short lived. We also worked on sit, down, wait, and hit the driveway for some loose leash walking training today. He got to check out all the new things in the driveway that he hasnt seen before and he did well. He is available for adoption through Team Memphis Rescue & Support and would do best in an active home.

Sadie and I enjoyed the nice weather today as she just ran around the yard. I also got some fun obedience in with her while I did stuff with the other dogs, but nothing too crazy. She was beyond amped today, probably because of the nice weather, so we worked on being slightly patient haha

Tether training is one if the tools I truly love to use for those high energy dogs that dont quite know how to relax around the house. This helps teach them how to self soothe and learn how to do nothing. You can also apply this method to a leash and tying the leash to you, but some dogs need to be away from a human because even us humans are super exciting. Rio here got to have a tether training night to take all the living room things in that hes never seen before without me having to constantly worry about him breaking something or hurting himself by being overly excited. Some dogs do better with this than others, so the waiting game for them to calm down and give in absolutely varies.

Runty has had quite the day. After he got here I let him just decompress in a crate, since he seemed to feel safe there. He got a much needed ear cleaning and a bath, but his nails are a no go. We will have to work on that and probably tag team him to get those toes more comfortable for him. He even let me dry him some with the dryer so he was wonderful for everything but his nails. We then sat in the kennel run together watching some dog TV so he can relax. Hes absolutely exhausted after everything today, but hes been very sweet.

Rio and I changed things up tonight with some easier fitness exercises. His brain went to mush way faster and his German shepherd side showed through when he made it very clear he didnt want to work too hard. He just wanted to play with his toys instead, so thats how we ended the night.

Implementing productive play into your dogs routine can be crucial to their development, learning, and fulfillment needs. Knowing your dog's genetics also helps understand what they may need to feel fulfilled. Alex here comes from IGP genetics and he has a strong desire to chase and play and he loves fighting me in a game of tug. We use this to help teach him other skills that he will need on the IGP field in the future. Play can be a very, very valuable tool in your toolbox if your dog enjoys that type of thing.

ADOPTABLE DOG

Say hello to my second board and train foster Runty. He is a 2 year old Cane Corso that is here for some much needed socialization. He is available for adoption through . Stay tuned to hear all about his progress! He will also be going on a bit of a diet while hes here, hopefully gaining some muscle mass, and learning some overall good dog obedience type stuff. So far hes a bit nervous, but seems very sweet.

Rio had more of a low key day today since tonight's my scent work night for 4 of my dogs. He got to help me with the dishes and taking the trash out. Which consisted of learning what he was allowed to play with and what he wasnt and to stay off the counters. He did really well with it and hes even more comfortable sniffing around outside now and really enjoys the yard more and more every day. Initially he was almost panicked by the amount of freedom all by himself out there so its nice seeing him let loose and enjoy himself.
