Humans are nature.

Sadly, we’ve been conditioned to believe humans are separate from nature, some even going so far as boasting humans are superior than nature. It happened to me too, growing up on a farm, all I longed for was the day I could move to the concrete and chaos of NYC. I actually had a deep seeded fear of nature.

I do love NYC, it has my heart and I feel like I belong there, but it didn’t take me long after I arrived to realize why my parents high tailed it out of there…

The human body was created to change with the seasons, just like every species on this Earth. We are well equipped to spend adequate time outside during the cold fall and winter months.

But so many people shy away from it and are aghast at being outside when it’s snowing or raining…two of my favorite times to be outdoors.

I wasn’t always like this, I did have to retrain myself to enjoy the beauty of the seasons. Relearn my place in nature. Be comfortable in a stand of trees. I also had to learn how to layer up and utilize effective tools like gloves, hats and scarves.

Humans are nature, and that’s where we belong, surrounded by nature. Even when it’s cold out.

Seasons change, it’s one of the things I love most about upstate NY, the dynamic and diverse seasons and the changing beauty that nature provides, always.

A great place to start or boost your health journey, is simply by immersing yourself in nature as often as you can. Even just 5 minutes can be helpful.

Enjoy your day, I’m off for a walk in 39F temps., first real cool day of this beautiful fall season. I am eager to get out there!
