Words from Leilani, NP 💗

I carry two small scars, each holding a big part of my story.

One sits quietly between my eyebrows, left behind by chickenpox when I was around 17 or 18.
I used to try to hide it, feeling like it took away from my face.
Now, I see it differently. It reminds me of the young girl I was, growing into the woman I am today.

The other is on my right knee, a scar I’ve had since high school.
It came from a minor procedure done back home in the Philippines. The intention was medical, but the stitching didn’t consider how I’d carry that scar into adulthood.
I’ve treated it with ointments, silicone sheets, and even steroid injections. It’s hardly noticeable today unless you look closely, but I know it’s there.
Both felt like flaws at the time. I remember looking at them every day and wishing they’d disappear.
And now, I accept it. Not half-heartedly but fully. It’s part of me.

Working in the burn unit taught me something I’ll never forget.
Some ICU nurses would question why our burn physicians were plastic surgeons.
They didn’t understand that these surgeons weren’t just there to close wounds; they were trained to save lives and consider how those wounds would heal.
From the moment a burn patient arrived, our team was already thinking ahead not only about infection control and survival, but also about how patients would feel about themselves when the healing was done.

That stuck with me.
Because I know how it feels to live with a scar.

And now, I carry that same mindset.
Every treatment I do is with intention, from the results you can see to the confidence you feel.
Because true beauty isn’t about erasing your past.
It’s about embracing it with grace, care, and heart. ~ Leilani 🌷💫
