Honored to be sworn in today in San Diego as a new State Board Member of the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California (OPSC). OPSC is the organization that helps oversee the practice of medicine in California along side of the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. OPSC is also the advocacy arm of the practice of Osteopathic Medicine in California. Thank you to my colleagues who nominated and voted for me for this 2 year term.

2023 has been a tough year- my friend Captain Robbie Knievel passed today after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. In 2016 Robbie helped me put on a car-show in conjunction with the American Heart Association to raise funds and awareness for Women’s Heart Health. Robbie was a warrior and even after having broken nearly every bone in his body, he still wanted to jump again and entertain the world with his skills that were undoubtedly passed down from his Father (Evel). I own the 1966 c10 that used to carry Evel’s Harley and when Robbie saw my truck and Evel’s ‘Color Me Lucky’ logo he cried. Robbie signed the dash and so the father-son legacy continued. Robbie, you will be missed. Thank you and as you wished me always..”Happy Landings.” ❤️ ❤️

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Block family. Ken Block was an inspiration to gearheads like myself and his Pike’s Peak Hoonicorn feat was one of the coolest car flicks I’ve ever seen. He was a self- made man and an inspiration to business minded folks… more importantly he was a dedicated father. My prayers go out for his family and children. Ken, you will be missed. Go easy.

Commotio Cordis is the medical term for an unlucky timed hit to the chest. If timed at the wrong part of the cardiac electrical cycle , it can send the heart into ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest. It is rare but can happen to healthy athletes - most commonly in lacrosse, hockey, and baseball where a high velocity object hits the chest. While we don’t have all the details from tonight’s football game, it is seemingly more probable that this is what America witnessed on Monday Night Football. The only thing to save someone in this circumstance is prompt defibrillation usually with an AED. This is why I have been an AED advocate in Kern County and I am proud to have helped to ensure that AED’s are on all Kern High School campuses. AED’s save lives and prevent catastrophe. Praying they were able to use it promptly tonight at that football game if indeed it was Commotio Cordis.

Great Time at Sir Elton John’s last American show ever. Befitting to end @ Dodger Stadium - 11-20-22. He explained how thankful he was to America for helping to boost him to stardom in the 1970’s. As an American, I am happy to have helped!!

Fun day at the UCLA home opener today…thank you to my friends at the Rose Bowl for providing some much needed AC climate control and breathtaking views of my Alma Mater playing in America’s Stadium! This was a season opener game for die hard fans and alumni as the temps hit 103 in Pasadena today. We started slow but the team started to sync by the second quarter and put on a great show. Go Bruins!!

My 1972 Stingray convertible is one of my favorite cars. You really feel connected to the past and get to experience the quality put into American muscle cars of the late 60’s and early 70’s when you drop the top down and take it out for a spin on the open road! This Stingray is a small block 350 coupled with a 4 speed manual transmission. The car is the original Elkhart Green color code with dark saddle leather interior.

Ablation for atrial fibrillation is a effective way to treat this irregular heart beat. 5 years ago, this patient had ablation to quiet down the pulmonary veins connected to the left atrium of the heart . In the before picture (right) it is evident that the cardiac tissue has reconnected to the veins allowing the irregular heart beat to come back. This is shown by the rainbow of colors that allow conduction of electrical current next to healthy tissue (purple). This reconnection is highly irritable and results in an irregular heart rhythm. After repeat ablation (left) now the scar tissue has been revised to discreet lines preventing irritable electrical tissue from the now quiet pulmonary veins ( in red) from aggravating the healthy heart tissue (purple).

July of 2022 marks the one year anniversary of the Kern Cardiac Institute. It’s been an amazing 12 months and I told myself that venturing out in my new medical practice during the present challenges of the pandemic was not going to be easy. I know that easy success does not necessarily result in longevity. I am so thankful to the patients of the last 14 years who have given me the honor and privilege of being their doctor - many of whom decided to follow me to my new endeavor at KCI. The patients are what have inspired me and kept me going day to day and now we are firmly rooted and growing. One year of this new practice is only the first page of many more to come and I welcome and look forward to the challenges and rewards ahead. Thank you for all your support!
