From graduate students at Southern Illinois University to national leaders in brain injury rehabilitation, Dr. Mark Ashley and Susan Ashley’s journey is rooted in purpose, perseverance, and giving back. As founders of Centre for Neuro Skills, their Southern Illinois University Carbondale education helped shape not only their careers in speech pathology—but a lifelong commitment to advancing care, supporting students, and investing in the future of the field.

Today, that impact comes full circle through their ongoing support of SIU faculty, research, and student opportunity, ensuring the next generation of clinicians and innovators can continue pushing what’s possible.

CNS CEO and President David Harrington proudly attended the Brain Injury Association of America 2026 National Conference & Awareness Day, held March 9–11 in Washington, D.C. As Brain Injury Association of America Board Chair, David helped lead advocacy efforts and joined fellow advocates in advancing conversations around research, policy, and awareness to support the brain injury community nationwide.

The first two days of the conference brought together leaders from across the brain injury community for sessions focused on advancing research, along with meaningful opportunities to connect and collaborate. The event concluded with Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, where attendees met with members of Congress to raise awareness for individuals and families affected by brain injury.

CNS was proud to attend and exhibit at the 18th Annual Conference on Brain Injury, presented by the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS). During a pre‑conference session, our experts Britta Colombo and Stephanie Abler shared practical strategies for supporting non‑speaking patients whose communication has been impacted by brain injury.

We’re thrilled to welcome Jay Varma to the Centre for Neuro Skills team as our new Director of Employer Relations, a newly created role that reflects where CNS is headed next. 🌟

For 45 years, CNS has helped brain injury survivors rebuild their lives through intensive, outcomes-driven rehabilitation. Now, we’re formalizing a direct relationship with the employers and benefits leaders who can help more people access that care when they need it most.

Jay brings more than nine years of enterprise health solutions experience, including senior roles at Amazon (One Medical) and One Medical, where she built strategic partnerships with large self-insured employers across the country. She understands the employer benefits landscape deeply — and she understands what’s missing from it.

Neurological conditions, from traumatic brain injury and stroke to concussion and long COVID brain fog, carry outsized costs for employers: extended disability claims, lost productivity, fragmented care. CNS offers something the market has lacked: a Neuro Center of Excellence with a full continuum of care, 45 years of clinical expertise, and proven outcomes.

Jay is here to bridge that gap. Welcome to CNS, Jay!
