Eye Shields are a patient safety measure for both laser, Halo, BBL or photofacial treatments. Most patients are familiar with external eye shields but internal eye shields (like very smooth metal contacts) can also be used to protect the eyes.
Internal eye shields are placed after numbing drops and patients typically experience no pain when they are in place. They allow me to safely get up under the eyelashes, to clear brown pigment out of the tear trough (which makes everyone look tired) and to go over the upper lid if needed during resurfacing or Halo. As you can see below, they come in a couple of different forms.
