As we continue to recognize Día de Los Mu***os - we’re grateful that many hospital teams created their own ofrendas! Our communities showed up by sharing pictures and items of their beloved pets at their local VCA this season! The lasting connections we have with our community members and your pets means the world to us. We honor all of those pictured.

These efforts have been made possible by our LatinX - Stronger Together Associate Resource Group for amplifying resources across our hospital teams to create their own ofrendas.

At VCA Bakersfield, we’re honoring the memories of all the beloved pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge. 🐾💖 This Dia de los Mu***os, we are creating a special Ofrenda (altar) in their memory, and we’d love for you to be a part of it.

This week, we’re excited to introduce you to Jefery, one of our incredible Kennel Assistants! 🐶💚

Jef’s favorite part of his job is working with nervous and anxious pets. He takes pride in building trust with them, helping them become more comfortable, sociable, and confident. It's truly rewarding for him to see these pets progress, and it shows in everything he does. He’s also always there for his coworkers and clients, offering a helping hand whenever it’s needed.

With 12 years of experience in the veterinary field, Jef has had a lifelong passion for animals. He began his journey as a dog walker, where he loved seeing the excitement and joy on the pups’ faces. He even volunteered at CALM Zoo, gaining more experience with animals along the way.

When he’s not working, you can find Jef walking dogs all around Bakersfield or playing bass guitar at his church. He’s a huge music fan and loves discovering new tunes and attending live performances—especially concerts!

Jef has 5 pets of his own: 4 dogs and 1 cat, so he knows exactly how important it is to make sure our boarders feel safe, loved, and cared for. 🐕🐈 We are so lucky to have Jef on our team—his attention to detail and his genuine love for the animals make him an irreplaceable part of our crew.

🌟 Meet the Staff Monday 🌟

Today, we’re excited to introduce Danika, one of our amazing Veterinary Assistants here at VCA Bakersfield!

Danika's journey in the veterinary field began at just 15 years old, when she volunteered at the county shelter in the surgery department. By 17, she landed her first job at a veterinary hospital, and shortly after, dove into the world of shelter medicine. Fast forward, and she’s now a vital part of our team, bringing years of hands-on experience to our patients every day.

Her passion for animals started early—she knew she wanted to work in the veterinary field even in high school. After graduating early, her mom (who also works in the veterinary field!) encouraged her to shadow an RVT. Within a month, Danika realized her true calling and set her sights on becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). 🐾💉

What she loves most about her job? Making a difference in the lives of animals in need. Whether it's a life-saving procedure or just lending a comforting hand, Danika is all in for the animals.

When she’s not at work, Danika enjoys reading, binge-watching TV shows, and spending quality time with her family. At home, she’s a proud pet mom to 4 dogs, 4 cows, and 2 bull calves! 🐶🐄

Danika, we’re so lucky to have you as part of our team. Your dedication and compassion make you a true asset to VCA Bakersfield! 💙
