CVMG Facts: New Years Resolutions 🎉

Try this one: DEFINE EVERY DAY.
Pick a new word to live by each month— not talking about the new words recently added to the dictionary, but positive ones like “friendly” or “wholesome”—and apply it to your daily actions 🙌

Introduce yourself to that new neighbor, or swap your favorite fast food joint for a juice bar once a week 😋 Post your word somewhere you can see it or set it as your email password as a reminder.

CVMG Facts: New Years!!

The New Year's Eve Ball first dropped in 1907! 🙌

While the tradition of a Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration dates back to 1904, the ball was not dropped at this event until 1907, according to Times Square's website. The first Ball weighed 700 pounds and had a diameter of 5 feet. It was constructed out of wood and iron, and had one hundred light bulbs on it 💡💡💡

CVMG Facts: Candy Canes!!

Did you know?? 🤔 Legend has it that candy canes were invented in 1670, when the choirmaster of the Cologne Cathedral commissioned candies shaped like a shepherd’s crook so they could be handed out to children attending the church’s crèche scene in order to keep them quiet 👶👍The stripes came later!

CVMG Facts: Counting Calories

This just in- consuming 100 calories' worth of cupcakes, soda, or French fries is not the same as eating 100 calories of vegetables or brown rice!! 😮

Stop getting caught up in the number of calories and instead focus on where you are getting them from. 🤔 If you're mindful and consume the vitamins and minerals your body needs, you’ll be able to drop pounds without becoming obsessive about calorie counting. ✊

CVMG Facts: Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)!

Myth: "ADD IS OVER DIAGNOSED. EVERY CHILD WHO ACTS UP A BIT, OR ADULT WHO IS LAZY, GETS PLACED ON RITALIN OR ADDERALL.” 😏

FACT: Less than ½ of those with ADD are being treated. Many people with ADD are never hyperactive. The non-hyperactive or “inattentive” ADD folks are often ignored because they do not bring enough negative attention to themselves 😣 Many of these children, teenagers, and adults earn the unjust labels “willful”, “lazy”, “unmotivated”, or “not that smart.”

CVMG FACTS- WEIGHT LOSS 👌

MYTH: Very low calorie diets and skipping meals will jumpstart weight loss.

TRUTH: Weight loss is all about creating an energy deficit — ingesting fewer calories than your body expends each day — but creating too large of a calorie deficit can backfire 🤔 Our bodies are smart and programmed for survival. Severely limiting calories can make your body think it's entering a famine, and that it needs to do more with fewer calories. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Your body adapts to the restricted caloric intake, and uses fewer calories to perform the same tasks. That's why skipping meals alone won't do the job!

CVMG Fact #829
Supplements Can Never Fully Replace Real Foods!

"Nutritionism" is the idea that foods are nothing more than the sum of their individual nutrients. But it’s also a trap that many nutrition enthusiasts tend to fall into 👀

Nuts, for example, aren't just shells loaded with polyunsaturated fat. In the same way, fruits aren't just watery bags of sugar. These are real foods with a massive variety of trace nutrients! 💪💪

The vitamins and minerals (AKA the things you get from a multivitamin) are just a SMALL part of the total amount of nutrients in foods! 😮 Therefore, supplements cannot match the variety of nutrients you get from real foods.

It is much more important to eat real, nutritious foods than to count on supplements to provide nutrients you need👌

Just a couple reasons to smile (in case you needed one)! Did you know??

1. Studies have found that optimism is beneficial to your overall health, but is linked to a healthy heart and can even help ward off diseases.

2. Optimists often have lower blood pressure, which reduces the risk of coronary artery disease as found in a study by scientists at Harvard and Boston Universities.

3. People who are more optimistic also tend to have healthier behaviors – such as diet and exercise – that contribute to longevity.
