“I loved the way I looked when I was pregnant. I also loved how much support I got from everyone when I was pregnant. I loved my belly and so did others, since they knew how hard I worked for it.
“Then I had Adelyn. Suddenly, my belly was displeasing to the eye, it was this saggy bag of potatoes with marks and wrinkles. I was told to use cream and work out so I can tighten it up as much as possible then consider getting a tummy tuck. You know so I can look "normal" again.
“Of course no one meant any harm by this, they were trying to be helpful. However, my response always was "this IS normal. I had a baby, and this is how my body was supposed to look afterward. If I was meant to look any other way I would have. I love my belly, my body, my widened hips. My body carried me through pregnancy and is now what's helping me care for Addy." Usually I got surprised or no response.
“Just like a beautiful pregnancy belly that everyone wants photos of or wants to touch, a postpartum belly is just as beautiful. It's worthy of love and appreciation. Every stretch mark, every wrinkle, and every fold.
“You are a Goddess. You created a life from scratch. Your body supported that life AND yours. You're not just a Goddess, you're a warrior. Never rob yourself of your beauty because someone else can't see their own.
“Did you get unsolicited advice on "bouncing back"? What were the most annoying ones?”
