Spotlight: Brian Requejo

Meet Brian Requejo, our Enterprise Process and Configurations Supervisor.

In his role, Brian helps optimize processes and ensure systems run efficiently to support critical health care functions across the organization. “What I enjoy most is the ability to make a meaningful impact while continuously learning and taking on new challenges. I’m also fortunate to work with outstanding colleagues who help improve our stakeholders’ processes,” he says.

Brian, who is of Filipino descent, grew up in New Jersey where he participated in various sports and school clubs. His parents emphasized the importance of education and encouraged him to see learning as a pathway to opportunity and a better future. Those values shaped his drive for continuous growth, leading him to earn a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in 2006. He has since earned several certifications and continues expanding his knowledge through reading and lifelong learning.

“As an Asian American, my heritage has deeply influenced my perspective—instilling resilience, respect, kindness and a commitment to continuous growth. These values have shaped both my career path and leadership approach,” Brian says. His advice to young AAPI professionals is to embrace your unique background, stay curious and confidently pursue opportunities that challenge and help you grow.

Spotlight: Jai Paul

Meet Jai Paul, our Business Intelligence Development Supervisor. In his role, Jai provides stakeholders with essential reports, dashboards and key performance indicators that support governance, generate insights and help drive informed business decisions. “The most rewarding part of my position is empowering my team—supporting them as they assist others and helping maintain a positive, collaborative work environment.” Jai shares.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Jai was raised with both Western and Asian influences, as both of his parents are from Bangladesh. “The home cooking, traditions and values they passed down have always kept me closely connected to my community,” he says.

Jai attended James Madison High School in Midwood, followed by Kingsborough Community College and Brooklyn College before pursuing a career in information technology. Although IT was not his original major, internship opportunities introduced him to business intelligence development work with IBM Cognos and shaped his career path.

His advice to young Asian American and Pacific Islander professionals is to “Explore life with an open mind. Take the time to analyze all your options before making decisions. More often than not, opportunities are right in front of us—we just don’t always recognize them in time.”

Jai has been happily married for three years and recently welcomed a baby boy; an experience he says has given him a deeper appreciation for his roots and heritage.

We’re grateful for the dedication, leadership and positivity Jai brings to our team, and we proudly celebrate his journey!

Spotlight: Kulwant Kaur, RN

Meet Kulwant Kaur, RN, our Utilization Management Outpatient (OP) Clinical Manager.

Originally from India, Kulwant was inspired to pursue a career in nursing after experiencing the skill, patience and kindness nurses showed while caring for her ill mother. “That experience stayed in my heart and inspired me to become the kind of steady presence for others that they were for us.” Kulwant shares.

After completing nursing school, Kulwant moved to the United States to pursue the American dream, beginning a new chapter with a new culture and English as her second language. Through determination, compassion and hard work, she built a meaningful life and career that ultimately led her to Kern Family Health Care.

In her current role, Kulwant supports timely access to outpatient care for members. “What I love most about my work is being able to support people on both sides: helping members feel informed and reassured, and helping my teammates feel confident, valued and proud of the care and service we deliver,” she says.

Kulwant’s heritage and values continue to shape her leadership style each day. “I try to listen with care, communicate with respect and advocate for members and my team when the health care process feels confusing or stressful,” she says.

Kulwant encourages young AAPI professionals to stay curious, lead with compassion, and to not be afraid to ask for help.

“With persistence, I can find my way, and I try to bring that same steadiness and care to every member and teammate I support.”
