Sleep problems are common for patients on dialysis. Poor sleep can worsen fatigue and make it harder to manage anxiety or depression. It's important to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
If dialysis or medications are interfering with your sleep, talk with your care team. They can suggest adjustments to help you rest better.

High blood pressure can put extra strain on your heart and blood vessels, which matters even more when you're managing kidney disease. Maintaining a healthy blood pressure helps protect your heart and can reduce stroke risk.

Recognizing the warning signs of stroke can save a life. The B.E.F.A.S.T. acronym helps you remember what to look for: Balance loss
Eye changes
Face drooping
Arm weakness
Speech difficulty
Time to call 911.

Healthy kidneys do more than filter waste. They help control blood pressure and support red blood cell production. For women (and men) on dialysis, these functions need extra attention.
The U.S. Office on Women's Health leads National Women's Health Week every May, focusing on health needs at every stage of life. This year's observance runs May 10-16 and includes resources on prevention and whole-person health for women.

This Mother's Day, we are thinking about the mothers in our care who manage dialysis alongside everything else they carry, the caregivers and family members who show up for moms living with kidney disease, and the patients spending the weekend honoring a mom who is no longer with us.
To every one of them, thank you for being part of the families we are honored to care for.

About 1 in 5 patients on dialysis experience depression, but the emotional toll of kidney disease sometimes goes unspoken. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the National Kidney Foundation has practical, science-backed steps patients can take to help feel better, from connecting with peers to mindfulness practices to ease anxiety.
If you have been feeling persistently sad or detached for more than a couple of weeks, reach out to your care team. Support is always available.
