Each quarter, Bakersfield Community Health Center (Adult Day Health and Activity Center) brings excitement and reward together through our special BCHC "Store" event. This highly anticipated experience gives participants the opportunity to redeem credits they’ve earned through consistent attendance, active participation in exercise classes and therapy sessions, and by supporting and engaging with their fellow participants.

Our store offers a wide variety of items—from everyday essentials and tasty snacks to fun, creative, and personal treats—ensuring there’s something for everyone. The event is filled with energy, pride, and joy as participants “shop” for items they’ve worked hard to earn.

The experience is made even more memorable through photos like these capturing participants smiling, celebrating, and proudly showing off the items they’ve selected. These moments highlight not only the rewards themselves, but the sense of accomplishment, community, and connection that defines Bakersfield Community Health Center.

Part of the "Magic" at our Adult Day Health and Activity Center is the fun and camaraderie that our participants experience when celebrating the holidays and special days throughout the year like St. Patrick's Day. Everyone had a great time creating themed crafts, enjoying new and old friendships, and just having a great time! No, we didn't service green beer, but they still enjoyed a delicious breakfast and lunch as usual.

Our Adult Day Center is licensed and certified to provide medical oversight by nurses, support and counseling my medical social services, rehab therapy by physical and occupational therapists, and it is covered 100% by Kern Family Health Care, Anthem, and Kaiser Medi-Cal insurance programs. And we even have private pay options. Give us a call for more information. (661) 215-8218.

Love was in the air at our Bakersfield Community Adult Day Health and Activity Center! ❤️

Two of our participants who met here at the center recently found something very special in each other, so we hosted their wedding ceremony here at the Day Center and celebrated their marriage with a party filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of love.

Moments like this remind us that our center is more than just a place for care and activities — it’s a place where friendships grow, connections are made, and sometimes even love stories begin.

We are so happy for this wonderful couple and grateful we could celebrate this special moment with them. Congratulations to the Newly Weds Debbie and Michael! 💍

✨ Meet Chris Frost ✨

Chris Frost has worked in healthcare since 2008 and currently serves as the Chaplain with Bakersfield Community Healthcare, where he is also our Spiritual Counselor and Bereavement Coordinator.

Chris walks alongside patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments—offering prayer, guidance, and compassionate services that bring comfort, peace, and reassurance when it’s needed most. His care doesn’t stop when a loved one passes. Chris continues to stay in contact with families, providing ongoing support and helping them navigate the tender journey of adjusting to life without their loved one.

Chris is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master of Theology with an emphasis on the Greek New Testament. He also studied “across the pond” at St. Andrews University in Scotland, earning his Master of Letters—and likely developing an appreciation for shortbread and rainy weather along the way.

We are incredibly grateful for Chris’s steady presence, deep faith, and genuine compassion. His heart for people shines through in every visit, every prayer, and every continued connection with the families we serve. 🤍

What a lovely morning spent last week at Solstice Senior Living at Bakersfield as residents enjoyed a charming English Tea Party and took a little trip across the pond with us. From laughter and conversation to beautiful details and shared memories, this experience was truly one to cherish.

We are incredibly thankful to FlowerWall for donating the gorgeous backdrop that helped bring this special event to life, and a heartfelt thank you to our community liaison Justina Cruz-Howell for organizing this event.

At Bakersfield Community Healthcare, we believe strongly in supporting and partnering with the activity curriculum at our senior living communities. These moments of connection, creativity, and new experiences are so important for overall wellness, joy, and quality of life. We absolutely love creating opportunities that engage residents in something new, uplifting, and memorable.

💙 Hospice vs. Palliative Care — What’s the Difference? 💙

We often hear these terms used interchangeably, but they serve different purposes — and understanding the difference can help families make informed, compassionate choices.

✨ Palliative Care
• Can begin at any stage of a serious illness
• Focuses on comfort, symptom relief, and quality of life
• Can be provided alongside curative treatments
• Supports both the patient and their family

🌿 Hospice Care
• Designed for individuals with a life-limiting illness
• Typically begins when treatment is no longer focused on cure
• Emphasizes comfort, dignity, and peace
• Provides emotional, spiritual, and medical support for the entire family

At Bakersfield Community Healthcare, our heart is centered on meeting people where they are — offering compassion, education, and support every step of the journey.
