The good news is that with the right habits and support, seniors can enjoy the season while protecting their health and well-being.

Here are some practical winter wellness tips to help seniors stay healthy, comfortable, and connected during cold and flu season.

✨ Meet Chris Frost ✨

Chris Frost has worked in healthcare since 2008 and currently serves as the Chaplain with Bakersfield Community Healthcare, where he is also our Spiritual Counselor and Bereavement Coordinator.

Chris walks alongside patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments—offering prayer, guidance, and compassionate services that bring comfort, peace, and reassurance when it’s needed most. His care doesn’t stop when a loved one passes. Chris continues to stay in contact with families, providing ongoing support and helping them navigate the tender journey of adjusting to life without their loved one.

Chris is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master of Theology with an emphasis on the Greek New Testament. He also studied “across the pond” at St. Andrews University in Scotland, earning his Master of Letters—and likely developing an appreciation for shortbread and rainy weather along the way.

We are incredibly grateful for Chris’s steady presence, deep faith, and genuine compassion. His heart for people shines through in every visit, every prayer, and every continued connection with the families we serve. 🤍

What a lovely morning spent last week at Solstice Senior Living at Bakersfield as residents enjoyed a charming English Tea Party and took a little trip across the pond with us. From laughter and conversation to beautiful details and shared memories, this experience was truly one to cherish.

We are incredibly thankful to FlowerWall for donating the gorgeous backdrop that helped bring this special event to life, and a heartfelt thank you to our community liaison Justina Cruz-Howell for organizing this event.

At Bakersfield Community Healthcare, we believe strongly in supporting and partnering with the activity curriculum at our senior living communities. These moments of connection, creativity, and new experiences are so important for overall wellness, joy, and quality of life. We absolutely love creating opportunities that engage residents in something new, uplifting, and memorable.

Here’s to meaningful moments, community partnerships, and many more shared experiences together 💕☕️

💙 Hospice vs. Palliative Care — What’s the Difference? 💙

We often hear these terms used interchangeably, but they serve different purposes — and understanding the difference can help families make informed, compassionate choices.

✨ Palliative Care
• Can begin at any stage of a serious illness
• Focuses on comfort, symptom relief, and quality of life
• Can be provided alongside curative treatments
• Supports both the patient and their family

🌿 Hospice Care
• Designed for individuals with a life-limiting illness
• Typically begins when treatment is no longer focused on cure
• Emphasizes comfort, dignity, and peace
• Provides emotional, spiritual, and medical support for the entire family

At Bakersfield Community Healthcare, our heart is centered on meeting people where they are — offering compassion, education, and support every step of the journey.

💙 What Is Hospice Care? 💙

Hospice care is about comfort, dignity, and quality of life when someone is facing a life-limiting illness. It focuses on caring for the person, not just the diagnosis.

Hospice provides:
• Pain and symptom management
• Emotional and spiritual support
• Support for family and caregivers
• Care wherever you call home

Hospice does not mean giving up — it means choosing comfort, peace, and support during a difficult season.

Our goal is to help patients live as fully and comfortably as possible, surrounded by the people they love.

Bakersfield Community Healthcare Adult Activity Center rang in the New Year in style!

Participants counted down to "noon-night" with smiles all around, followed by a festive balloon drop and nonstop fun.

With DJ Brodi Da Shawn Harris, aka our very own Activity Coordinator, Robby Harris, on the turntables, the dance floor stayed full as they danced, line-danced, and waved glow sticks.
They even took it back in time and had a Soul Train line. Robby played crowd favorites, and afterwards, a few brave stars even jumped in for karaoke!

The NYE celebration wrapped up with a delicious lunch of enchiladas, beans, and rice, a special singing of Happy Birthday to all of our December birthdays, and sweet cookies to top it all off.

It was a day filled with laughter, music, movement, and community—exactly the way the New Year should begin.
