SEARCH (Sustaining Essential and Rural Community Healthcare) a local nonprofit organization, is currently conducting a Health study in Mitchell and Yancey Countries to try and determine the impact that Hurricane Helene has had on the residents of our area. The results of this study are important for Mitchell and Yancey County residents because those results will be used to help local long-term recovery groups, local nonprofits, health departments, first responders and others to raise grant funding to speed the recovery of our area from the effects of Helene and to help prepare for future disasters. The surveys only take about 10 to 15 minutes and are anonymous ( your name will not be attributed to the answer given). This survey will give anyone chooses to take it and opportunity to help the community as a whole 😉and to report on how the storm affected them.

You are invited to come to the Buladean Community Resource Center between Noon and 3:00 pm on either Monday July 21st or Wednesday July 23rd to answer a few questions for this study. There will also be information available at that time on how to get in touch with the locally organized and locally run Mitchell County Long-term Resilience Group in the event that you or someone you know that lives in Mitchell County and has suffered loss as a result of the storm wants or needs to seek assistance.

******We really need your help, Mitchell County folks!********

Researchers at NC State and UNC are partnering with communities in WNC to study drinking water quality, mold, and water security in homes affected by Hurricane Helene. The study is seeking 60 households in Mitchell County to participate in this research project. Eligible households will receive a free water test, mold assessment, and confidential test results and resources. Results of this study will help researchers estimate health risks and guide future disaster response. Take the enrollment survey to see if you qualify: https://bit.ly/43rSHZ5
