Do your eyes ever feel dry and tired after working on your computer or scrolling on your phone for long periods of time? 👩‍💻📱This is called Eye Strain, and it can cause significant discomfort. When we look at our screens at such a close distance, it forces the muscles in the eyes to work harder to focus on each pixel. We also tend to blink less often when we look at screens, which leads to more dryness. If possible, try to sit slightly farther away from your computer, or hold your phone farther away from your face. Make an effort to blink more frequently, and consider lowering your screen brightness— particularly if you are in a dark room. Lubricating eye drops can also help soothe and prevent excessive dryness.💧A good rule of thumb is to use the 20-20-20 rule. After every 20 minutes of screen time, take a 20 second break to look away from the screen, and focus your eyes on something 20 feet away in the distance. 👁️ And of course, make sure to schedule regular eye exams with your doctor at KTND to make sure your vision is being properly corrected with glasses or contacts!

Meet Dr. Leonard! In addition to being a skilled optometrist and providing patients with excellent care, Dr. Leonard is also an accomplished marathon runner! 🏃‍♀️👟 She began running during her undergraduate years at Lafayette College, and continued to run throughout optometry school. During her time in optometry school, she would spend her evenings running around Boston with a running club that she joined with her roommates. Dr. Leonard has now run 5 marathons: Newport Marathon, Wineglass Marathon, Grandma’s Marathon, Boston Marathon, and the Chicago Marathon. What’s her favorite thing about running? “I love the idea that you can run anywhere and it’s my favorite thing to do when traveling to a new city or country. I love the community of runners and how passionate people get about the sport.” ⭐️
