Tonight, I sat by the campfire, glass of wine in hand, listening to the soft sounds of the night. The breeze through the trees, the steady rhythm of crickets — it was one of those rare moments where everything felt still.
Then my phone lit up:
“Breaking News: The U.S. has just bombed Iran.”
And just like that, the stillness shattered.
Earlier this week, my son received a letter from the Selective Service. A reminder that he hadn’t registered for the draft.
We believe in doing our part, and I know it's standard procedure. He turned 18 in the middle of COVID — we were distracted.
No big deal... right?
Except I saw three other posts this week from moms in parenting groups whose sons got the same letter, on the same day.
And suddenly, the fear that had been quietly humming in the background of my mind became deafening.
Are we preparing for a draft?
Is my child — my baby — at risk of being pulled into something I can’t protect him from?
I felt the wave of helplessness rise.
Because what can I actually do? I can’t change U.S. diplomatic policy. I can’t reverse the past or rewrite the future.
But I can do something.
I can ground myself in this moment.
I can breathe. I can return to the sound of the fire and the wind and my own heart still beating.
And I can do the small things that create ripples.
I can take care of my nervous system.
I can hold space — in my body, in my home, and in my work — for others to soften.
Because those small ripples matter.
When I protect my peace, I show up more whole for my family.
When I take a sacred pause, I invite others around me to do the same.
And that’s enough.
It has to be.
This is why I created Sacred Pause — not as a luxury, but as a lifeline.
It’s a quiet, intentional space for women who are feeling stretched thin by the weight of the world — to reconnect with their breath, their body, and their sense of safety.
It’s 2 hours of stillness, healing, and quiet care. No talking. No fixing. Just a space to remember who you are underneath the noise.
If you need a place to land right now, this is your invitation.
You don’t have to carry it all alone.
