Pets displaced by recent flooding are being relocated to unaffected areas across Texas โ€” including ours. You can make a difference by opening your home and fostering a pet in need.

Every temporary home helps ease the burden on shelters and gives these animals a safe place to land during this crisis.

Consider fostering today โ€” your kindness could save a life.

Chocolate is a treat for you โ€” but toxic for your dog!

Even small amounts can cause serious health issues, including vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, and heart problems.

As you celebrate World Chocolate Day, please keep all sweets safely out of pawโ€™s reach. If your dog gets into chocolate, call Animal Emergency Room at 210-737-7380 โ€” weโ€™ll coach you through the next steps.

Free Microchipping Event

Fireworks are fun for usโ€”but they can be terrifying for pets. Every year, shelters across the country see a spike in lost animals following the 4th of July. We're working to change thatโ€”and you can help.

Join us for our upcoming Safe Pet Pop-Up Clinics, where weโ€™ll be offering free registered microchips, custom pet ID tags, and other pet safety essentials to help prepare your furry friends for the holiday.

Our first event kicks off Tuesday, July 1, at West End Park (1401 N. Hamilton, near the Frank Garrett Multi-Service Center) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This clinic is held in partnership with the San Antonio Park Police CORE Unit.

Weโ€™ll also be hosting clinics at Animal Care Services (4710 State Hwy 151) on Wednesday, July 2, and Thursday, July 3, with services available during two convenient time slots each day: 8โ€“10 a.m. and 4โ€“6 p.m. (Upper parking lot).

โœจ To help us serve you faster, please take a moment to pre-register at saacs.info/safepet before attending.

Letโ€™s keep pets safe, at home, and out of the shelter this 4th of July. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ My pet got stung by a bee, now what?

Summertime means sunshine, flowers, and yes... bees. For curious dogs and cats, that can lead to painful stings. Here's what to do if it happens:

1๏ธโƒฃ Look for a stinger. If you spot one, gently scrape it off with a credit card or fingernail. Avoid tweezers. Squeezing the stinger can release more venom.

2๏ธโƒฃ Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and pain.

3๏ธโƒฃ Ask your veterinarian if Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is safe for your pet and get the correct dosage. Never give it without consulting your vet first.

4๏ธโƒฃ Watch for serious symptoms:
๐Ÿšจ Vomiting
๐Ÿšจ Facial swelling
๐Ÿšจ Difficulty breathing
๐Ÿšจ Weakness or collapse

These could indicate an allergic reaction and require immediate veterinary care. Some pets may need oxygen, fluids, or emergency medications.

Bee stings can range from mild to life-threatening. Quick action and vet guidance make all the difference. Stay safe this summer!
