For women with ADHD, motherhood often feels like a never-ending evaluation. One where the criteria are vague, the expectations aren't fair or reasonable, and which set the stage for feeling inferior. So many of the women I work with describe feeling like they’re already behind before the day even begins. And it’s not because they’re incapable. It’s often because myths of motherhood quietly create pressure that can cause immediate overwhelm and shutdown.

To learn how motherhood myths impact women with ADHD and why redefining these expectations can support mental health and improve confidence, 𝘾𝙇𝙄𝘾𝙆 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙇𝙄𝙉𝙆 𝙄𝙉 𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙈𝙀𝙉𝙏𝙎.

Motherhood is full of expectations. And most aren't reasonable, especially all of the time. Mothers are expected to be organized, patient, present, and "on top of it all." But if you're a mom with ADHD, those expectations can feel impossible, and the guilt? Relentless.

Maybe you:
➡️ Forget school forms or appointments
➡️ Struggle to keep up with routines
➡️ Feel overstimulated and burned out by 10am
➡️ Wonder why other moms seem to "have it together"

You are not failing.
You're doing the work of three people without the support or understanding you deserve. All while managing a brain that processes the world differently.

As a therapist and mom with ADHD, who works with moms navigating ADHD, I want you to know:
✨You are not alone.
✨You are not a bad mom.
✨Your ADHD doesn't make you less. It just means you need different strategies, support, and compassion.
✨AND you have strengths that are unique because of ADHD!

🍁𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐃𝐇𝐃 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡🍁
Let's challenge the idea that moms have to fit into one neurotypical mold.
You can be forgetful and deeply loving.
You can struggle with structure and raise incredible humans.
You can be exactly who you are and still be a great mom.

The American Psychological Association is deeply concerned about the Administration’s recent announcement on autism.

Promoting unsupported scientific theories risks fueling stigma, undermines public trust and distracts from real scientific progress.

About Therapy Mama®

Hello! My name is Jacqueline V Cohen and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, an ADHD Certified Clinical Specialist Provider, and a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist Diplomate. I have been in private practice for over 10 years working with maternal and paternal mental health which includes depression and anxiety during pregnancy and the postpartum period, infertility, loss, and birth trauma.

I also work with eating disorders, body image, adult ADHD, life transitions, substance abuse, and more. I enjoy working with individuals ages 18 and older as well as couples. I started my practice in Georgia, and in 2017, moved to Colorado. I am currently licensed in both states and offer Telehealth for Georgia clients.

I enjoy providing therapy for therapists, as well as Supervision for those working towards licensure, and Consultation for clinicians needing guidance working with my specialties, exploring self as therapist, clinical skill, administrative effectiveness, and professional identity.

When working with clients, my philosophy is the intentional practice of self-compassion including the 3 principles by Kristen Neff, Ph.D. When we can really connect to our own humanness, we create a platform for positive change, self-awareness, self-acceptance, and living life as our authentic best selves.
