Richard Russell "Wh**ey" Roberts

Richard “Wh**ey” Roberts of Miles passed away Tuesday at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was 84.

Wh**ey was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Rochester, N.Y., and was the third child of Rozell and Martha Roberts of King Ferry, N.Y. Known as “Dick” or “Dickie” to his upstate New York friends and family, he grew up on a dairy and learned the value of hard work. And perhaps, even as a boy, he was destined for a career in sales. He and his childhood friend, Clint Wise, spent one Saturday going around to people’s trash cans and picking out magazines in good condition. Then they went door to door selling them until each had enough money to buy a piece of lemon meringue pie and an RC Cola at the local drugstore.

He graduated from Union Springs High School in 1960, where he played football, tennis, and intramural sports and served as the FFA President his senior year. He also served on The Frontenac yearbook staff and often spoke highly of his classmates and teachers, including Mr. Frank Vasquez, who taught World History and taught him mnemonic strategies that would serve him well throughout his life. When his father died in his senior year, Dick went to live and work on the Giles Dairy Farm to help support his mother.

After graduation, he joined the Air Force and served four years as a non-Morse radio interceptor, memorizing and copying code, earning accolades as an expert marksman, and receiving numerous commendations. In the service, he picked up the nickname “Wh**ey” because of his blonde hair, which had bleached nearly white from spending so many hours outside playing tennis and participating in other outdoor activities. He was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines, Lackland AFB in San Antonio, and Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, where he was a proud member of the 6945th Security Squadron.

In 1963, while at Goodfellow, he met Dorothy Stringer, a farm girl from Runnels County, at the Rendezvous Drive-In in San Angelo, and they began dating, eventually marrying on Oct. 17, 1964, at Johnson Street Church of Christ. Following a honeymoon trip to visit his sister and her family in Miami, Fla., they made their way to Rochester, where Wh**ey began his career in sales. It only took one northern winter to convince Dorothy that she didn’t like all the snow and ice, so they moved back to San Angelo, where Wh**ey worked numerous sales jobs, including with Allstate, Shepperson’s Furniture, McDuff’s Electronics, Lacks, and Trend Furniture. He and Dorothy eventually owned the BYOB Water Store in San Angelo before their retirement. She preceded him in death at Christmastime in 2020.

An avid baseball fan, Wh**ey enjoyed collecting baseball cards and other memorabilia, coaching Little League, umpiring games, and watching his beloved New York Yankees. He was a walking encyclopedia of baseball trivia. In Miles, he was a longtime member of the Lions Club and was named Lion of the Year one year. He also served on the Miles ISD school board for many years, including as President, and he was proud to have served at a time when a bond issue passed to build new facilities and upgrade others in need of repair. He was a staunch supporter of the teachers, coaches, students, and high school athletics. A member of the Miles Booster Club, Wh**ey ran the down boxes at football games for many years and could always be counted upon to help scout opposing teams. He was also known to get into mischief, primarily with Charles Ehrig. The pranks they played on one another are legendary.

He loved reading espionage/thriller novels, playing solitaire on the computer, and working on crossword puzzles. One of his greatest joys was watching his granddaughter, Katherine, participate in school activities and compete in AKC dog shows with Petit Basset Griffon Vendeens (PBGV), pointers, and basset hounds. He also enjoyed talking sports with her husband, Lawson, and was excited about the upcoming arrival – Lord willing – of their baby, his great grandchild. Mike was his computer go-to guy, and he knew when Wh**ey called and said his name in a certain inflection, Wh**ey’s computer wasn’t working correctly, and Mike would be making a trip to Miles.

Wh**ey is survived by his daughter, Pam, and her husband, Mike Howell, of San Antonio; his granddaughter, Katherine, and her husband, Lawson Price, of San Marcos; his brother-in-law, Larry Ray, of Miles; a nephew, Jeff Ray, of Miles; a niece, Christi, and her husband, Tanner Hess, and their children, Amanda and Jacob, of McLean, Texas; a sister-in-law, Sue Stringer, of San Angelo; a niece, Richanda Brunet, and her husband, Brandon, and their daughter, Elora, of Lubbock; a son, Randy Roberts, and his wife, Lynda, of Amarillo, and special classmates and high school friends, Lois Bowman and Ron Ray, of upstate New York.

There will be no funeral services. For those who wish to remember Wh**ey in some way, please consider donating to Mrs. Paige (Ehrig) Ernhart’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) group. Wh**ey thought the world of Paige and of the students who have competed and won national-level awards. Donations may be mailed to Miles FCCLA, in care of the Miles ISD administration office, P.O. Box 308, Miles, Texas 76861.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and physical therapists with Ballinger Home Health and Hospice and the nurses, support staff, and administrators at Ballinger Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where Wh**ey spent the last weeks of his life.

You all are true angels.

Marcella Antonia Carpenter

Marcella Antonia Holik Carpenter, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in Ballinger, Texas.

She was the last of eight children born to Frank and Albina (Ripple) Holik on December 19, 1930, at the family farm in Gruenwall. Marcella attended schools in Gruenwall, Ballinger, and Wall before graduating from Eola as valedictorian.

Marcella married Aaron Hard Carpenter, Jr., on December 16, 1950, at the Lutheran church in San Angelo, Texas and were partners for 51 plus years. They farmed near Mereta and reared five children.

Marcella was an excellent cook, seamstress, and gardener. Many friends and family were gifted beautiful works of art, including crocheted afghans, caps, shawls, and family-name banners. Music was also a very important part of her life; she played the saxophone, accordion, piano, and organ.

Jr. and Marcella encouraged their children in all areas of 4-H, FFA, and FHA and the Baptist Churches they attended. They served as leaders in 4-H. After her children were grown, Marcella began another adventure in Paint Rock schools. She was a librarian, computer monitor, and classroom aide. Many students benefited from “Mrs. Carpenter’s” love and instruction. Education was very important in her home.

Marcella and Gladys Sturgill were the original members of the Foster Grandparent program in Veribest schools. Marcella even convinced Jr. to join the program. They were proud of every child’s successes. Nanny (Marcella) and PawPaw (Jr.) loved spoiling their grandchildren. Each grandchild knew he/she was special to these energetic grandparents.

Marcella and Jr. were fond of dances in Rowena, fishing trips to Brady and O.H. Ivie Lake. They also loved dominoes, cards, and Wahoo with family and friends.

After Jr. passed on June 8, 2002, Marcella moved to Rio Concho Manor (in 2004) where she made many new friends. She continued sharing her baked goods with neighbors and attended church at Business Men’s Bible Class. Marcella was well-loved by all who knew her and cherished her for her giving spirit and bright personality.

Marcella is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Aaron (Jr.) Carpenter, her parents, Frank and Albina Holik. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Frank Holik, Jr., Georgia Riemenschneider, Stanley Holik, Walter Holik, Libby Dusek, Albina Plagens, and Eddie Holik. Kenneth "Bubba" Michael Wade Clanton

Kenneth Michael Wade Clanton, 33, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on December 5, 2025. He was born in Austin Texas, on January 28, 1992, to Henry Wade Clanton and Rosemarie Emmett.

Kenny was the most loving boy as a child. He loved his mother, father and sisters with a fierceness not seen in a lot of people. He loved to do his sister’s hair and bake. Kenny was the sensitive, shy boy of the trio made up of him and his sisters they never let anyone mess with the other and their love was infinite. Nothing not even death will break their bond. He grew up to be strong and independent as well as loving and protective towards those he loved. He loved to paint and create stuff. Kenny was a blunt and honest person who loved to smack talk his family and friends. Kenny didn’t have children of his own, but he loved his nieces and nephews as his own; they brought joy to his life and chaos to his nerves, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. Kenny struggled in life, but he kept fighting. He was on his way to becoming a truck driver turning his life around, but his life was cut short and now he is on the big open road in the sky.

Kenny and his little sister were thick as thieves always stirring up trouble with his older sister frequently, cleaning up their messes. Kenny’s mother was his double mint twin and loved dressing up like one another to fool everyone around them. Kenny was in awe of his father who was the hardest working man he had ever known in his eyes, Kenny’s stepfather was also a role model who taught him about cars and inspired him to be a truck driver while being on the road with him. Kenny lived freely and loved deeply, he was weeks away from having the life he always wanted, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t happy in the life he had.

He was adored by his family, and he will be cherished, loved, and missed every second of everyday for the rest of their lives until they are reunited again.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his father Henry Wade Clanton, his stepfather Gary Lynn Morgan and his sister Jeany Crews.

He is survived by his mother Rosemarie Morgan, his sisters Lydia Collins, Emily Clanton, Ashley Partain and Christina Greene, his brother in laws Brandon Lee Garvin and Jason Lee Thurmond and nephews James Greene and his wife Alicia Greene, Frank Morgan, Jeffery Wagner, William Henry Thurmond and Kenneth Greene, nieces Piper Collins, Dakota Bruton, Shyla Collins, Isabella Deraps, Laine Salazar, Peyton Thurmond, Harley Thurmond, Cynthia Greene and Olivia Greene. Kenny also leaves behind his aunt Margo, cousin Barbara, Charles, Diana, Ronnie and many other aunts, cousins and friends.

The family kindly requests donations made to https://gofund.me/c5beb97c4 or money sent to Rose Morgan’s cashapp ($RoseMorgan58) to help cover funeral expenses for Kenneth. Donations may also be made directly to Lange Funeral Home, 1910 Hutchings Ave., Ballinger, TX 76821.

A visitation will take place Friday, December 12, 2025, from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the chapel at Lange Funeral Home, Ballinger, TX.

Kenneth will be remembered for his loving but true bossiness, his extra loud explanations, his love for all those he encountered and his love for his family and friends. Kenny’s going to paint the heavens on his way in! Get Ready Dad, Here He Comes!

A service will take place, but it is to be determined.
