As prom season begins, we want every student to make it home safely.

Prom should be remembered for the laughter, photos, friends, and memories — not tragedy. Every year, impaired and distracted driving changes lives in an instant. As first responders, these are calls we never want to answer.

Before heading out to prom or after-prom parties, make a plan:
• Have a sober driver
• Use a rideshare
• Stay with friends or family
• Speak up if someone shouldn’t be driving

One decision can save a life.

✨Announcing my next 2026 Woman of Distinction: Susan Desbiens!✨

Susan Desbiens was born and raised in Schenectady County and graduated from Linton High School. She began her career in 1978 with New York State as a data entry operator for SUNY, after earning a high score on a state typing and spelling test.

In 1979, she secured a permanent position with the New York State Department of Tax & Finance, where she worked for 25 years, advancing into supervisory roles and contributing to major initiatives, including Y2K projects and 9/11 response efforts.

In 2003, she became a Police and Fire Dispatcher for the City of Schenectady, handling 911 calls and coordinating emergency services, earning multiple commendations. After dispatch consolidation in 2014, she continued serving at the county level.

She moved to Glenville in 1988 and joined the East Glenville Volunteer Fire Department, becoming an EMT in 1989. She remains active, earning awards and ranking among the top responders for years, including #1 in 2025 with over 450 calls.

Please keep Micki, her family and friends in your prayers.

Last night, one of our own, Micki Guy, sustained serious injuries while on duty and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.

Micki is a dedicated, long-time public servant, serving her community as a firefighter/paramedic. She has also made a lasting impact on our field as an EMS educator and one of our instructors.

In recent course feedback, when students were asked about their favorite part of the course, one simply answered: “Micki.” That speaks volumes about the kind of person and educator she is.

Please keep Micki, her family, and her colleagues in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Yesterday evening, we had the opportunity to be part of something incredibly rare and special.

On November 4, Ballston Lake EMS and Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched for an imminent childbirth. Jonesville Fire’s initial responders arrived to find delivery already in progress and immediately assisted mom on scene. Our crews arrived shortly after to help continue care and provide safe transport for mom and baby Lulu to the hospital.

Last night, we were able to reunite with the family from that call, sharing stories, laughs, and smiles while reflecting on a moment none of us will ever forget.

During the reunion, the Ballston Lake EMS and Jonesville Fire members who were present that day were presented with the Stork Pin, an honor in EMS recognizing providers who assist in bringing new life into the world.

Moments like this are why we do what we do. 💙

We had a great time Sunday at the Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department Easter party! 🐰🚑

Our crew brought an ambulance out for the public to check out, giving kids (and plenty of adults) a chance to climb inside and see how it all works.

Thanks to everyone who came by and to Jonesville FD for putting on an awesome event!
