Braces and Aligner Care Tips!

Taking care of your braces or clear aligners is essential for a healthy smile and successful orthodontic treatment. Plaza Orthodontics team recommend a few simple habits to keep your teeth and appliances in great condition.

Brush and Floss Daily -
Brush after every meal and floss at least once a day to remove food and plaque around brackets, wires, and between teeth.

Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods -
Foods like popcorn, chewing gum, hard candy, and caramel can damage braces and delay treatment.

Clean Your Clear Aligners -
If you wear clear aligners, rinse and gently brush them daily with lukewarm water. Avoid hot water to prevent warping.

Wear Aligners as Directed -
For the best results, wear aligners 20–22 hours per day and only remove them for eating and cleaning your teeth.

Keep Up with Orthodontic Visits -

Smart food choices = Healthy smiles

Plaza Orthodontics team believes great smiles start with what’s on your plate! The foods you choose every day play a big role in keeping teeth strong and braces or aligners on track.

Crunchy fruits & veggies like apples (cut into slices) and carrots
Dairy products like cheese and yogurt for strong enamel
Water to rinse away food particles and protect your smile

Foods to avoid with braces or aligners:

• Sticky candies (caramel, taffy, gummies)
• Hard foods (nuts, ice, hard pretzels)
• Popcorn (kernels can damage wires)
• Hard or thick pizza crust
• Sugary & carbonated drinks
• Chewing gum

Aligner tip: Remove trays before eating or drinking anything except water, and brush before putting them back in to keep them clear and clean!

Healthy habits + regular orthodontic care = a confident, beautiful smile.
