It all started with Harvey!

In September 1895, the first chiropractic patient was a black janitor named Harvey J. Lillard. Dr. Danial David Palmer, the discoverer of chiropractic, gave Lillard the first chiropractic adjustment upon learning that he had lost his hearing 17 years prior. Following the adjustment, Lillard’s hearing was restored and chiropractic was originally thought to be a cure for deafness.
