What gives your life meaning?
Existential psychology invites us into this timeless question. Founded by Viktor Frankl, Rollo May, and others, existential psychology explores how we create purpose, freedom, and authenticity in the face of life’s challenges and uncertainties. At its heart, it asks: how do we make a life worth living, especially when so much is outside of our control?
Today, this question feels especially tender. Rising fascism, political unrest, and global crises can shake the foundations of hope. In times like these, the task of cultivating meaning can feel daunting. Yet—this is the beautiful challenge of being human: to seek, create, and embody meaning that is deeply personal, not dictated by the world’s turbulence, but born in the microcosm of our own authentic, sacred inner lives.
Meaning does not arrive as a universal answer—it is handcrafted within the echo chamber of our own unique experiences, relationships, and values. It’s about asking: What lights me up? What roots me in love? What allows me to live with purpose, even in uncertainty?
Make life your own. Make it worth living. 🌿
What makes my life meaningful?
As of late, the meaning of my life is all about family, closeness, and play. Recently, I married my best friend and celebrated in the woods all weekend at Camp Puh’tok in Monkton MD. We stayed true to our own nature and sang songs by the fire at night, held a shamanic ceremony for our wedding, and listened to bluegrass until the sun came up. I’m now in my early 30’s, and have been growing ever close with my father. We sit with hapé and sacred medicine together, and have repaired a lifetime of wounds through embracing each other and having tough, but real and raw talks over the last several years. I feel most playful and alive when I’m trying new things, adventuring outside, meditating in nature, or exploring my spiritual self. These are the most sacred things to me, my nature, and my soul. The meaning of my life is about love - loving the most people I can, loving myself wholeheartedly, returning to love in darkness, and loving the way I spend my time, energy, and resources. What about you?
