The inner ear plays a crucial role in maintaining balance and spatial orientation. Even minor hearing issues can disrupt this delicate system, leading to an increased risk of falls and accidents, especially in older adults. By prioritizing your hearing health, you're not only ensuring clear communication but also helping to prevent potential balance-related issues.

Hearing loss can result from various factors. Let’s explore the different causes that can impact our ability to hear.
1. Age-Related Hearing Loss: As we grow older, a natural decline in hearing sensitivity can occur. This age-related hearing loss, known as presbycusis, is often due to changes in the inner ear structures.
2. Noise-Induced Hearing Loss: Exposure to loud noises, whether from concerts, machinery, or earbuds at high volumes, can damage the delicate hair cells in the inner ear, leading to permanent hearing loss over time.
3. Medical Conditions: Various medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and ototoxicity (side effects of certain medications) can contribute to hearing loss by affecting blood flow or causing damage to the auditory system.
4. Congenital Factors: Hearing loss can also be present from birth due to genetic factors, infections during pregnancy, or complications at birth. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in managing congenital hearing loss.

👉Remember, early detection and proper care are essential in managing and preventing hearing loss. If you or someone you know is experiencing hearing difficulties, consult with an audiologist.

Thankful for the opportunities my social media account has brought me but to be real with you for a moment….thinking about Instagram and TikTok on a daily basis for the past two years has taken up a lot of space in my life. Worrying about algorithm changes, views, likes, unwarranted shadow bans, glitches, etc has taken a toll. I am navigating motherhood, owning a business, trying to be the best wife, sister, friend and daughter all while making sure I post regularly on social media. This account has only been touched by me, no outsourcing, no editing team, no experts.

With that being said, it’s all been worth it because of you. I am beyond appreciative that you have found my account worthy of your time and energy. I post because I love sharing my love for audiology. I love informing the next generation about the dangers of noise exposure. I love cleaning ears and grossing you out with the videos! Continue sticking around, it’s just going to get better from here while I learn how to better use my time to make sure all aspects of my life are getting the appropriate amount of attention!

Sincerely,
Emily Jessica Taylor (aka )

5 ear cleaning tips you should know!

1. USE EAR DROPS
Over-the-counter ear drops can help soften and loosen stubborn earwax, making it easier to remove. Follow the instructions carefully and avoid using them if you have an ear infection or perforated eardrum.

2. AVOID COTTON SWABS
Despite their widespread use, cotton swabs should be avoided for cleaning the inside of your ears as they can push the wax deeper into the ear canal and potentially cause damage.

3. TRY IRRIGATION
Irrigating the ear with warm water can help flush out excess wax. Fill a bulb syringe with warm water (not hot) and gently sq**rt it into your ear while tilting your head to one side over a sink or towel.

4. SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP
If you experience severe pain or hearing loss, do not attempt to clean your ears at home. Instead, seek professional help from an audiologist or healthcare provider who can safely remove any impacted wax using specialized tools.

5. PURCHASE AN AT-HOME VIDEO
OTOSCOPE
A video camera designed for safely looking in your ear canals allows you to monitor your ear wax status so you aren't unnecessarily attempting to clean your ears out. My favorite cameras are linked in my bio!

Say no to ear candling!

Ear candling is a practice that involves inserting a hollow candle into the ear canal and lighting it, with the goal of removing earwax and other impurities.
Despite the widespread use of this practice, there is no scientific evidence to support its effectiveness. In fact, studies have shown that ear candling does not remove earwax or any other debris from the ear canal, and can even cause harm such as burns, ear perforation, and infection. Additionally, the wax or residue that appears in the candle after the treatment is not from the ear, but rather from the candle itself. Therefore, ear candling is generally not recommended as a safe or effective method for earwax removal or any other therapeutic benefit.
