The gold standard of academic research is multi center clinical trials, so we’re extremely proud of this article just released detailing our experience with a cranial implant for patients with hydrocephalus. What a phenomenal end to a great fellowship! It’s crazy how COVID19 has changed our everyday lives- typically there would be a party to celebrate, but instead we did an outside social distanced dinner with just immediate family, and everyone else was able to join via zoom. It was perfect!

End of fellowship countdown! They say all good things come to an end, and as I approach the end of my experience here at Johns Hopkins I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all our patients who allowed me to help with your care. It has been an amazing year from a clinical, research and educational perspective. Dr. Gordon is a phenomenal surgeon, teacher, and mentor and I am so grateful for this fellowship opportunity. This picture is from my recent Grand Rounds Farewell presentation; I am grateful to both the Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery department for all their support. As I leave to take a position and build a Neuroplastic Surgery program at The Ohio State University, this is not farewell. Instead, it’s “see you later!” I will continue to be a part of this group and am looking forward to future collaborations and of course the Annual Neuroplastic Surgery Symposium coming up in April. Thank you all!! -Dr. Kerry-Ann Mitchell

Save the date!! The Sixth Annual Neuroplastic Surgery Syposium is on for April 2021! As many of you know, we normally have it in November, but given concerns regarding travel and in person gatherings we thought it best to schedule it for April. This will give us plenty of time to organize and have our national and international attendees be able to join us. We have an amazing session lined up, you won’t want to miss it!

Our article detailing our experience with clear PMMA cranial implants is now online! PMMA is an acrylic material that has been used in surgery for many years, but only recently we’ve started using this clear version. There are so many benefits to using this for cranial implants, including that you can see through it to look at the brain and make sure no bleeding during surgery! Check out the article 🙂
