Now playing in the Community Clinic: EXTRAVISION by Guy Blakeslee

Baltimore-born musician Guy Blakeslee found himself transformed after being struck by a car on the first day of the pandemic. This life-altering event led him to create EXTRAVISION, a meditative collection of healing music to help listeners experience a sense of timeless peace. Soundscapes and gentle healing rhythms provide an ideal backdrop for relaxation and renewal during this month's Community Acupuncture sessions.

EXTRAVISION is a deeply therapeutic analog offering from experimental guitarist Guy Blakeslee. Healing music, New Age tape music, ambient soundscape, Satie on acid, music for psychedelic therapy, an extraterrestrial film score … call it what you will; Blakeslee considers it “channeled material” sent through him from other, parallel dimensions. To cope with any election-related stress, today and the days to come, consider taking a walk in nature. Walking among trees and enjoying the clean crisp air not only lowers blood pressure and cortisol levels but also supports lung health, aiding in emotional release, clarity, and inner peace. In fact, working with the Lungs is a great way to help find peace amid change, as they are the yin organ of fall.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Lungs are connected to the emotion of grief and the process of letting go, both emotionally and physically. They are seen as helping release unprocessed emotions like sadness, attachment, and stagnation, allowing for a healthier flow of qi (energy).

In our blog "There's No Better Time Than a Walk in the Woods" we talk more about the benefits of walking in nature, the organs of fall, as well as some walking tips and walking suggestions in the Baltimore area. Link in comments.

What are some of your favorite walks?

👻 Ancient Ghost Points & Ghost Points 👻

In ancient Chinese culture, ghosts (gui 鬼) intertwined with beliefs about the afterlife, ancestral reverence, and the forces influencing mental and physical health.

Ghosts were considered the spirits of the dead who had not found peace, often due to unresolved emotions, improper burials, unfinished business or disturbances in family lineage and ancestral rites. These spirits were thought to linger in the human world, potentially influencing the health and fortune of the living.

In our blog, "Ancient Ghosts and Ghosts" we explore the two parts of the soul and two types of spirit hauntings. Discover how possession can harm an individual and learn about the Ghost Points designed to help spirits find peace and move on! We've even included a few Ghost Points that you can do at home in the form of acupressure to promote calm and ease.

Summer can be challenging for people with autoimmune issues, as fluctuations in humidity and temperature can trigger symptoms.

In "Navigating Autoimmune Issues with TCM," Mend Acupuncturist Julia Flaccavento, L.Ac explains the Chinese medicine perspective of the immune system, as well as treating through a lens of wholeness and balance. Through this TCM framework of seeking to create harmony within the body, autoimmune patients can find some relief in symptoms in the summer and all year-round.

In TCM, spring is associated with the Liver, the emotion of anger and the Wood element. The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of emotions, Qi (energy) and blood. And the Wood element brings an energy of creation and growth. When either are imbalanced, Qi stagnates, causing emotions like anger, irritability and a feeling of being stuck.

In this blog, we share more about the Liver and Wood element in relation to spring and anger, as well as some helpful tips to help Qi flow smoothly and keep emotions in check.

In 2022, a handful of Mend staff formed a DEIB workgroup to help create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization. The result was a host of initiatives and trainings, some of which were recorded for onboarding new staff. While this work has been inward facing, we hope it has bolstered our client care.

In the spirit of transparency, we're sharing our DEIB webpage which includes a blog about our past achievements and future goals, as well as a short survey.

We are proud of this work and look forward to continuing these efforts for many years to come. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) food cravings are often interpreted as signals from the body indicating imbalances or needs. In fact, food cravings can be seen as a way of self-medicating.

There are five flavors: Sweet, Spicy/Pungent, Salty, Sour, and Bitter. In this blog, we explore the TCM connections between flavors and cravings, and provide healthy and beneficial foods to satisfy our cravings and fulfill our bodies' needs.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the body as a complex system of energies and organs, each with its specific functions and elements. Food cravings are often interpreted as signals from the body indicating imbalances or needs within

With spring produce abundant in greens, citrus fruits, and berries, it’s no wonder that Traditional Chinese Medicine recommends eating green, sour, and sweet. Food with an upward energy such as sprouts and radishes are also recommended, as they mimic Wood energy, the element of spring. Additionally, Liver Qi (vital energy) tends to be particularly active in the spring, so it's important to support its functions with proper nutrition.
