A very happy first Heartiversary to Hopkins , Natalie! We’re so happy to see how well you’re doing at home with your family. ✨ Hear more about Natalie's patient story below:

“Our CHD warrior, Natalie, was born with two congenital heart defects: a coarctation of the aorta and a large ventricular septal defect. At just two weeks old, she bravely faced her first heart surgery, followed by a second at six months. Between those two hospitalizations, Natalie spent 123 days inpatient at Johns Hopkins — days filled with fear, hope, and unwavering love.

Today, Natalie is home, happy, and truly thriving. Her smile lights up every room she enters and reminds us daily how far she has come. Her favorite person in the world is her big sister, Scarlett, who has been by her side every step of the way. Mama, Dada, and her cat Rosie are close runners-up. Natalie also loves visiting her incredible therapy team, who have become more than caregivers — they are family.

We will be forever grateful to the PCICU team and the exceptional nurses and medical professionals who cared for our daughter during one of the hardest seasons of our lives. Your skill, compassion, and dedication carried us through our darkest days. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.” ❤️

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for book club this week! 📕 Our latest read was The Heir Apparent by Rebecca Armitage. 👑

Review: We found it difficult to attach to any of the characters. Some of us liked the back and forth in timelines but we all thought it dragged in places. Those that are royal family lovers really enjoyed the book since the characters were CLEARLY members of the real royal family. Ultimately, the story just never fully grabbed any of us.

Happy first Heartiversary to Hopkins , Jones! We are so happy to see you living your best life. ❤️ Read more about his patient journey at the Heart Center below!

"Our son, Jones, was diagnosed with a large perimembranous VSD in utero. He had a normal birth, but at 2 weeks old he had to be admitted to Hopkins PCICU due to labored breathing and failure to thrive.

Jones faced many unexpected setbacks in the 37 days leading to his open-heart surgery, but the team at Hopkins never gave up on Jones and were relentless in their pursuit of his healing. On surgery day, Jones had 3 defects repaired in total: VSD closure, ASD closure, and a PDA ligation (an issue discovered during surgery!).

He was a completely different baby after repair, and you could clearly tell he had been healed. ✨

Since returning home after 63 days in the hospital, Jones has thrived in every way possible. He loves to laugh and make others laugh, play with musical toys, explore outside, flip through his books, and get involved in anything his mom and dad are doing, especially helping vacuum. He loves food and must try anything that you are eating. His favorite is bananas with peanut butter (the bigger the mess, the better). He is starting to walk now and is getting ready to welcome his baby sister who will be joining the family in February 2026. 🍼

We are forever thankful for Jones’ care team at Hopkins Heart Center, who healed Jones and also us parents along the way."

For the 3rd year in a row, the Tiong family has donated a humongous number of toys for us to give out to our heart warriors when they need a little surprise!

Bryce, a Hopkins , is the youngest of 4 boys. They all go shopping for their favorite things and then completely spoil us! Thank you so much for your generosity and for being a part of the community ❤️

During the holidays, the Courageous Kash Foundation dropped off spectacular gifts for our and their families in the PCICU!

The gifts included beautifully wrapped baskets filled with snacks, holiday dishes, a tin filled with candy, and a copy of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. ✨ In addition, each family on the unit received a FREE booklet of parking passes, helping to ease the burden of parking for 10 days.

Thank you for helping make the holidays brighter for our heart families, and for consistently showing up for our Heart Center community. Your kindness and generosity are very much appreciated! 🫶

Sophie Kollme, a Hopkins , has had multiple surgeries at the Heart Center. As an expression of their gratitude for the wonderful care Sophie has received, the Kollme family consistently finds ways to give back. ✨

This year was the second year the Kollme family adopted a Heart Center family for the holidays. They shopped for all three kids (and the parents), ensuring their holidays wish lists were fulfilled. Katie Swan even got to play Santa and deliver the gifts! 🎁

Thank you to the Kollme family for always supporting the Heart Center. ❤️ We appreciate you!
