Happy 7th birthday and early heartiversary to Hopkins Anderson! ✨
Anderson was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a severe congenital heart defect where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. This means the left side cannot effectively pump oxygen-rich blood to the body.
Babies born with HLHS require multiple surgeries, often in stages during their first few years. Anderson had his Norwood procedure 7 years ago, to create a pathway for blood to flow from the right ventricle to the body, which was the first of his four open heart surgeries. 🫀
“We are so proud of Anderson and for all that he has accomplished and will continue to do in his life. We are so grateful for all of the care that Anderson received and continues to receive at Johns Hopkins. Anderson is a thriving 7 year old and is happy to talk to anyone about Batman, the Eagles, and anything food related. We love you so much, Anderson, and are so very proud of you and thank you will never be enough to all of those who cared for him during his time at Hopkins!” ❤️

This past Friday, Ashley Kollme, mom of Hopkins Sophie, and Julie Amorese, senior NP at the Heart Center, came together to gift medical grade heart pillows to Heart Center surgical patients. ❤️
Heart surgery recovery can be scary and uncomfortable. Each heart pillow can be used to reduce pain with coughing or mobilizing. They can also be signed with a sharpie as a memory token. 🖊️
Thank you to the Kollme and Amorese families for this special donation!

Last month, the Heart Hustlers proudly participated in the second annual Miracles in Motion 5K to support Johns Hopkins Children's Center. 🏥
Thanks to all 40 of our team members, we were able to raise an impressive $3,346! We even got to celebrate our very own Hopkins , precious Sophie, as a mile motivator this year. ❤️
Check out some of our pictures from that inspirational day at the Maryland Zoo! 🐾

On Monday, the Heart Center Book Club met at The Chasseur in Baltimore to discuss their latest read, The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. 📕
While some readers loved it, others had a different opinion! Overall, we agreed that the character development was thorough and well done. However, the plot pace was very slow, which led to an abrupt ending. 😬
