When Hopkins Landen had surgery, his favorite thing was “Miss Katie’s snacks.” Now he’s making sure other kids have the same comfort! ✨

Landen asked his 4H club to donate snacks for the Heart Center — and wow, did they deliver! 🍪

Way to go, Landen! Thanks for always thinking of your friends at the Heart Center. We’re so proud of you! ❤️

August is National Breastfeeding Month! 🍼

Breastfeeding is a fantastic option for all babies, but it’s especially crucial for those born with congenital heart disease.

Not only does breast milk provide excellent nutrition, it’s also packed full of antibodies called immunoglobulins that help fight off infection and decrease the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis.

Breastfeeding also provides skin-to-skin contact which can help stabilize a baby’s heart rate and support suck-swallow-breathe coordination. 🤱

If direct breastfeeding isn't possible right away, don’t worry—pumping is a great option! The Children’s Center has a dedicated Milk Depot for safe, advanced storage and distribution of pumped milk.

At the Johns Hopkins Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center, we support your lactation journey every step of the way—with a Certified Breast Specialist in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (PCICU) and experienced lactation consultants available throughout the Children’s Center. ❤️
