Itās Birth Trauma Awareness Week. Letās spend a moment together on this.
Iām grateful for this time to spread awareness, dispel myths, and share support for healingāand I also recognize the wave of feelings this week may bring.
You might be seeing posts that:
āØresonate with your story
š„feel scary if you havenāt birthed yet or are expecting again
šŖoffer empowerment and post-traumatic growth
All of it is valid. Birth trauma is deeply personalātwo people can have similar experiences and feel completely different. Trauma lives in the eye (and body) of the beholder.
Letās be mindful of āall or nothingā thinkingāit makes sense when our nervous system is trying to protect us. Still, thereās often a lot of gray in what feels like black and white. Sometimes we need help finding it again.
And remember: someone elseās story doesnāt automatically become yours. Pause when needed. Go outside. Get support. ā¤ļø
As a survivor of interpersonal trauma around non-consented procedures + coercion in a hospital, and a former hospital social worker, I am both trauma-informed and informed by trauma. Nature was (and is) my greatest ally in healing. Itās an honor to now walk alongside others.
While we *do* need to modulate our media intake, I believe deeply in the power of story-sharing and story-keeping. There is collective wisdom in our words.
I share my birth stories on the Birth With Power podcast, hosted by the amazing OB/GYN Dr. Nicole Rankins (). You can listen to episode 295 at the link in my bio.
Letās support each other wherever we are:
āØDrop a ⨠+ one word if this resonated
š„Drop a š„ if birth feels scary, and Iāll send a support tip
šŖDrop a šŖ + a word if youāve found growth on the other side
