Black History Month, we honor Dr. Justina Laurena Ford, known as the âBaby Doctor,â who delivered an estimated 7,000 babies.
That number isnât trivia â itâs a cityâs future carried into the world by Black hands, again and again, while systems tried to deny her access, legitimacy, and space. When hospitals shut her out, the home became the clinic. When institutions refused her, the community became the proof.
Thousands of mothers supported through labor. Thousands of first breaths witnessed. Thousands of families who left with more than medical care â they left with dignity.
This is Black history: not only what gets recorded, but what gets remembered â because people are still here to tell the story.
