Tonight I’m spending my evening with current and aspiring cottage food entrepreneurs at the Essex Community Development Corporation, and I’m genuinely excited for it. Cottage food is such a great way to start small—whether it’s a side hustle or the first step toward something bigger—but it also comes with very specific rules about what can (and can’t) be made and sold.

After going through the process myself with Sassory, and with my background in food safety, I’ve seen firsthand how easy it is for new producers to get tripped up by the regulations.

Looking forward to a fun night helping others be food safe.

From a young age I have spent countless hours on the Chesapeake Bay. Fishing, Crabbing, Swimming, and Boating. To see the sewage being dumped into Maryland's greatest asset, is heartbreaking. what is a happening is terrible. 2026 has not gotten off to a good start.

Hello,

I’m working on improving training options that are available to you, and I’d really value your input.

I’m not sending a survey — I just want to hear directly from you.

👉 What type of training would help you or your staff the most right now?

Some examples (but feel free to share anything):

• More online / self-paced training

• More live instructor-led classes, possibly virtual?

• Short refresher or continuing education sessions

• Better scheduling options

• Better Group Pricing

• Something else you wish existed

If you’re an owner or manager, I’d also love to know:

What would make training easier or more valuable for your business?

You can simply hit reply and type a quick answer — even one sentence helps.

I promise to not spam you with tons of questions.

Thank you for helping me make the training I offer more useful for you. I truly appreciate it.

Sue

If you’re reading this, chances are today isn’t business as usual. ❄️❄️❄️

  Maybe you’re closed.
Maybe you’re the only one there.
  Maybe you’re stuck at home.

Restaurants don’t really get days off — but storms like this can create a rare pause.

That pause is a good time to check a few food safety items that are easy to push aside when things are busy:

Are your Certified Food Protection Manager credentials current?

Do you know when they expire? Remember your County Manager card expiration is probably different from your ServSafe Certification expiration.

Is your HACCP plan up to date — and does it reflect how you actually operate today?

Like a lot of things right now, my schedule has create some free time. If you find yourself with a moment and want to talk through your needs — certifications, HACCP, or just questions — feel free to give me a call. No obligation, no sales pitch.

Sometimes a quick conversation is all it takes to figure out next steps.

Stay safe and warm out there.

— Sue
