Helping Up Mission

Helping Up Mission Restoring hope. Rebuilding lives. For nearly 140 years… and counting! We are a faith based, privately funded, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

We provide programs and services to men and women suffering from homelessness and addiction. Our long-term, residential Spiritual Recovery Program is our flagship. Since 1995, we have helped hundreds of men break the cycle of addiction, poverty, and homelessness. The average homeless man or woman we serve has survived two decades of substance abuse and years on the streets. They come to us addicte

d, destitute, and dysfunctional — with no realistic capacity to recover on their own. For a man or woman in that condition, a “quick fix” doesn’t exist. Healing requires a holistic approach. By God’s grace, lives are transformed as men and women who have suffered for years — or in many cases, decades — on the streets rise up and regain their purpose, hope, and independence. As they do, all Baltimore is blessed along with them; our community experiences healing.

At Helping Up Mission, we are committed to learn, grow and strengthen the way we serve. This week, our CEO Daniel Stoltzfus and Director of Outreach & Intake Pete Griffin were humbled to join the "Best Practices for Addiction Treatment within Homelessness” at the White House, hosted by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, in partnership with HUD & HHS.

By engaging with national practice leaders and policymakers, we continue to define and refine our approach to recovery, ensuring that every man and woman we serve receives the highest support, dignity and opportunity for lasting life transformation. We are grateful to be part of the ongoing conversation shaping the future of addiction treatment and harnessing the power of community on a national level.

Today we broke ground on our future Recovery Park, a new greenspace that will grow hope, healing and opportunity for the men, women and children we serve.

This park wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our donors, the support of our neighbors, and the collaboration of our partners. Thank you for helping make this vision a reality.

Recovery is more than a program. It is a community effort, and today we celebrate what can grow when we come together.
