💬✨ October is AAC Awareness Month! ✨💬
At Loyola, we’re celebrating the incredible ways Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) empowers individuals to connect, share, and participate in everyday life.

From our faculty leading AAC research and instruction 🧠📚 to our graduate students gaining hands-on experience in the field 💪💬 — we’re proud to advance understanding and inclusion for all communicators.

Let’s continue to reframe AAC as a tool for communication access — for both speaking and nonspeaking individuals alike! 💚

🎧 October is Audiology Awareness Month!
Hearing plays a vital role in how we experience life. This month, we’re raising awareness about hearing wellness and celebrating the experts dedicated to helping people hear their best.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Candace Robinson, our newest clinical audiologist, to the team! Dr. Robinson brings extensive experience and a passion for helping individuals improve their hearing and quality of life. 💙

We’re also inspired by “Headphones” by Matt Nathanson, a collaboration with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, where 100% of the artist and label proceeds supported access to hearing care around the world. 🌍

Join us in celebrating the importance of hearing health, the joy of sound, and the professionals who make it all possible. 👂✨

We honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day today to recognize and reflect on the history and culture of Indigenous communities. Indigenous languages hold unique worldviews, storytelling traditions, and cultural knowledge. As SLPs, we advocate to amplify Indigenous voices to support language preservation and maintain inclusive, culturally responsive care.

Take time to learn and engage with the community with resources in our area and media.

✨ September was NICU Awareness Month… and yes, we’re sliding in fashionably late here in October. But awareness of the NICU—and the amazing professionals who make a difference there—deserves the spotlight every month. 💜

In the NICU, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) play a vital role in supporting feeding, swallowing, and those very first steps toward communication. 🍼💬

We are proud to feature Dr. Jennifer Crouse Hood, Ed. D., CCC-SLP, CNT, DCS, SBCS who brings expertise in neonatal feeding and swallowing to our program, and Skylar Cho, who held an externship in NICU care while at Loyola💚

Because sometimes the littlest fighters show up early, and our posts show up late 🤪

This Deaf Awareness Month, we’re honoring the rich culture, language, and contributions of the Deaf and hard of hearing community. It’s a time to learn, embrace Deaf identity, and advocate for true inclusion and accessibility — not just this month, but every day. 🤟
