I realized that i never got around to reviewing this book, and wanted to take a few minutes to give it some attention.
Haunting the Hunter had really good bones. The concept was there. It broke the fourth wall, as was promised. The story had magic, ghosts, and demons.
Most importantly, the reader was supposed to be the MMC’s love interest. And I was… in a really almost abstract way.
🛑 Warning: Spoilers Ahead (Scroll for final thoughts and book rating) 🛑
The characters in the book, specifically our male lead Cade Halloway, aren’t really capable of interacting with you in any real way.
Cade can sense you, feel when you touch him, but can’t touch you back. He can talk to you but you can’t respond.
Really all you can “do” is put your mouth on him (yeah, I know), and provide emotional comfort.
Gotta admit that my expectations were probably higher than they should have been have been. There’s only so much you can do when breaking the fourth wall to interact with the reader.
It doesn’t mean I wasn’t a little disappointed.
As for our other leading men, resident demon Alabaster feels like one of the more complex characters in the book. He was funny, could also interact with the reader, and loves cats.
Whats not to be obsessed with?
✅ Back to Safety: No More Spoilers ✅
Overall, the book was ok. Would I recommend it? Maybe to someone looking for something a little goofy but also dark.
Will I read the second book? Yeah, probably. But it certainly won’t be a priority read for me.
