We hosted our annual Light the Labyrinth Celebration on Dec. 2, officially kicking off the holiday season and illuminating our campus. Even though chilly temperatures and inclement weather moved the event doors, holiday magic could still be felt during the festivities.

This year’s event featured performances by Dr. Iain Forrest, Our Lady of Hope/St. Luke School children’s choir, students from Patterson High School and All 4 One Creative Arts. Everyone in attendance was invited to place a candle on the portable labyrinth, illuminating the atrium of the Asthma & Allergy Center. The highlight of the program was when two special helpers flipped a switch to turn on all the lights on campus.

Thanksgiving always brings new surprises, shared memories and plans for the future, as well as a chance to reflect on what we hold dear.

We’re especially grateful that we can always count on each other amid the current challenges to medicine, science and our communities. Our team holds each other up and leads by example, showing kindness and caring for all, especially those made vulnerable in the neighborhoods they live in and love. Their communal efforts mean our patients and their loved ones can celebrate this Thanksgiving and look forward to memories yet to be made in the Thanksgivings ahead.

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and we proudly recognize our fellowship-trained, board-certified endocrinology experts. They specialize in endocrine disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, which can lead to long-term, serious health conditions. We thank them for the critical work they do in diabetes education, management and research to care for the patients we serve.

Thank you to our Memory and Alzheimer's Treatment Center team! We celebrate them for the care and support they provide to our patients and their loved ones, who are dealing with memory loss and other conditions that affect cognition.

Perioperative nurses are involved in all aspects of surgical and patient care, from preparing patients for surgery and assisting with their procedures, to ensuring proper recovery post-surgery. Burn survivors Heather Linnemann and Christian Proulx both attend group sessions at Johns Hopkins Bayview's New Life Burn Society, a support group that helps survivors embrace a "new life" through community and shared experiences. The Johns Hopkins Bayview chapter has been connecting survivors and building relationships since 1987.
