šŸ’– An Update from Me, Lillian Cooperman šŸ’–

Hello, friends. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the love and support you’ve shown me during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness has meant more to me than I can put into words.

The past few months have been very hard. I have barely been able to eat or walk for three or four months and had dropped down to just 80 pounds (I am back up to 95 pounds, so fingers crossed šŸ™‚). I spent two months in the hospital and had four surgeries; it’s been a long, difficult journey. I’m finally back home now, and it feels so good to be with my dogs, Tillie and Cleo, and my birds, Ollie and Lindy. They’re barking, chirping, and truly keeping me alive with their comforting presence.

I’m also grateful to share that I am back to work at my acupuncture practice in Canton. Right now, I’m only able to work on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but being able to return to what I love and see clients again brings me much joy.

If you’ve been curious about acupuncture or want to experience its benefits, I’d love to see you for a session. It’s a wonderful way to support your own healing while also supporting my practice during this time.

This journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m doing my best to stay strong. With ongoing cancer treatment, life continues to be an uphill battle, and I’m deeply thankful for every bit of support that helps me keep going. I also have learned a lot about cancer treatment and have many valuable resources if you know anyone that is suffering and needs help; I am happy to pass this knowledge and all my contacts on to others that may benefit. I have found many wonderful providers along the way and am grateful for their help.

If you’re able, I’d be so grateful if you could consider contributing to my GoFundMe. Every bit of support helps me cover medical expenses and rebuild my life. I am most appreciative of your help, especially as I had lost most of my life savings (due to fraud) shortly before I got diagnosed and fell ill.

🌟 **Support My Fight Against Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer** 🌟

Dear Clients and Friends,

I want to share an important update about my health journey. As many of you know, I’ve been battling Stage 4 colorectal cancer. While my condition has remained somewhat stable, there hasn’t been any improvement. My oncologist has advised that continuing chemotherapy (aside from occasional maintenance doses) won't be beneficial and is recommending a life-changing radical surgery.

Given the extreme and permanent nature of this surgery, I am exploring alternative medical options that aren't covered by insurance. These options offer hope for a better quality of life.

Before my diagnosis, I faced another major challenge—losing most of my life savings to fraud. Despite these hardships, my love for my work and commitment to my clients have kept my acupuncture practice open.

I am incredibly grateful for the support I've received and humbly ask for your continued generosity. Your contributions to my GoFundMe campaign can help me access these crucial medical treatments. Every donation, share, and encouraging message means the world to me.

Please continue to text, call, or email me for your acupuncture appointments. Your support and business are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.

Thank you for standing by my side. ā¤ļø

Natural Cold and Flu Remedies

To prevent flu & colds support the immunity with a healthy lifestyle which includes adequate amount of sleep, exercise, a balanced diet, and a good stress management:)

If you did get sick there are natural ways how you can help your body fight off the invaders!

🌿Echinacea Supplement🌿
Start taking the supplement once you are starting to feel symptoms of flu or cold. Echinacea helps shorten the symptoms.

🦪Zinc Supplement🦪
Similar to Echinacea, it is important to take it within 24 hours of the first symptoms to shorten and reduce the severity.

šŸ‹Vitamin C šŸ‹
To get your daily vitamin C dose you can turn to a supplement form or go ahead and enjoy citruses, pineapples, strawberries and other berries that are in the season!

The tea also offers an array of antioxidants that help the body fight the disease. Please make sure that the liquids you are drinking are not scalding hot to not burn your airways and throat that will only make your suffering worse.

Antibacterial Properties of some Essential Oils

Essential oils have a lot to offer. In addition to releasing fragrant aromas that could help you relax and able to reduce stress and anxiety, essential oils have antimicrobial properties-they kill bacteria, fungi and viral pathogens!

Essential oils have aldehydes and phenols chemical compounds, which act as powerful disinfectants and antioxidants. In short, they inhibit the growth of certain types of bacterium including those which have become resistant to antibiotics recently.

Tea tree oil and pathogens it can fight off:
* Escherichia coli (E. coli)
* Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus)
* Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis)
* Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis)
* Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa)
* Haemophilus influenzae (H. influenzae)
* Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae)
The recommended dose of tea tree oil is 5 to 15 percent of topical oil applied 1 to 2 times daily.

Eucalyptus oil and pathogens it can fight off:
* S. aureus
* Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes)
* Salmonella typhi (S. typhi)
* Shigella spp.
* E. coli
* P. aeruginosa
Keep in mind that eucalyptus oil is highly toxic, even in small amounts. So like other essential oils, you shouldn’t ingest it.
To use the oil, inhale it with a diffuser, or add the oil to warm bathwater.

Lemongrass oil
* An effective deterrent against four types of fungi
* Combine 12 drops of the oil with 1 tsp. of carrier oil. Massage the oil into your skin or add it to bathwater

*Keep in mind that all essential oils can cause skin irritation. Never apply essential oils directly to the skin.
Before applying any essential oil topically, be sure to dilute it with a carrier oil, such as coconut, olive, sweet almond, jojoba, or argan oil.

Acupuncture and its Effects on Immunity

During these still challenging times Traditional Chinese Medicine can be an effective first line of defense for the support of an immune system. Compared to the Western medicine, TCM puts its efforts on the prevention of the diseases rather than relieving symptoms when the patient is already sick.

Acupuncture boosts the immune system through the stimulation of acupoints which improves the flow of qi. It is normalizing immune responses and restores its functions. Regular acupuncture sessions can help in the early stages of a disease and prevent its rapid development.
Here are the ways acupuncture helps boost an immune response:

- The immune system can fight off the pathogens more effectively, as needle stimulation promotes production of red and white blood cells and T cells.
- Acupuncture reduces emotional distress and help patients sleep better. Stress and the lack of good night sleep put an enormous amount of strain on the immune system, which weakens it overtime.
- Stimulates the production of interferon. This protein acts as a messenger to inform the immune system that there is a virus in the body. Interferon hinders virus’ replication.
The anti-inflammation effect. Acupuncture speeds up healing and reduces inflammation in the body.

Individuals who already have immune-related illnesses can still benefit from acupuncture as an addition to their conventional Western treatments to alleviate pain and side effects of medications.

Bonus Fact: as acupuncture reduces inflammation, it is able to restore and balance immune cells in the intestinal lining. The gut is an important organ that hosts body’s immunity.

Cupping: an Inverse Massage?
Cupping is a therapeutic technique that has been around for centuries. Cupping began in the fourth century with cups made out of animal horns or bamboo, but today most practitioners use glass, ceramic and plastic cups instead. Under the post I have shared with you some cupping utensils used in the past, including animal horns!
Cupping involves creating a vacuum inside the cup through lack of oxygen, thereby allowing the cup to adhere to the skin and gently pull the skin upwards. As the skin is drawn up, the pores open and the flow of blood is stimulated and obstructions are broken up. In this process, qi is realigned and flows more smoothly, and toxins are naturally drawn from the body.
Cupping is used to treat arthritis, gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions, and some types of pain.
Here is some tips before your first session:
- Stay hydrated and make sure you have a nice vibrant meal a couple of hours before the session
- Postpone your session if you have a sunburn or damaged skin (irritations, inflammations and so on)
- Avoid shaving, waxing, exfoliating areas where you will be getting cupping
- Keep the area warm and covered after the session to avoid muscle spasming
- Avoid consuming caffeine, alcohol, sugary foods and drinks 4 to 6 hours prior the session
- Relax and enjoy the treatment!

Acupuncture for a companion animal is a safe and effective way of treating many illnesses that your cat or dog might encounter, such as:
* Allergies
* Anxiety
* Appetite issues
* Arthritis
* Breathing problems
* Chronic pain
* Depression
* Fatigue
* General well-being
* Skin and coat ailments
* Urinary and bowel issues
* The same principles of the Chinese Medical Model of illness, treatment, and healing apply to animals just as to humans and treatment standards and protocol are similar for both.

All animals must have seen a veterinarian within a two week time period prior to treatment for pertinent treatment and diagnosis, or if nothing is presenting at the time, a wellness visit. Home visits are also available for companion animals to minimize their distress and enhance their treatment.

As late summer and autumn approach, this would be an appropriate time to make fitting changes. Here are a few suggestions for you! In the heat and humidity, it is important to hydrate with plenty of water or fresh fruit juice, try making watermelon juice at home! I also really encourage you to try cantaloupe, basil, mint with iced water! Check out the photo below the post for an inspo.
Green tea is a great option, as it cools your body from inside out! Mint can be incredibly beneficial as its cooling properties are perfect after a hot day outside.
Mung beans can also be used to fight off summer heat and provide relief from symptoms of dehydration. Simply steep mung beans in hot water for a few minutes before drinking it down with some fresh mint leaves or chrysanthemum flowers. These flowers make very nice and simple light iced teas.

What is your go to refreshing drink lately?

Why Self-Hypnosis Works for Anxiety Relief?

For this week’s Wellness Wednesday let’s turn our attention to self-hypnosis technique that has an ability to shift one’s focus and reduce anxiety.
Self-hypnosis is a powerful tool for anxiety relief. It can help you achieve your goals by focusing on the positive, rather than dwelling on what makes you anxious. Hypnotherapy research has proven that hypnosis produces therapeutic benefits for anxiety disorders and other stress-related conditions.
So what are the benefits of being in a ā€˜right’ frame of mind using self-hypnosis? When people use this technique, they feel better able to perform at peak levels through the use of suggestions, similar in function as self-affirmations.
Such as:
- I am safe and secure in myself and the environment.
- I feel calm, confident, and relaxed.
- I am confident and assertive when speaking to others.
- I accept myself for who I am.

Self-hypnosis is an excellent strategy for achieving goals by developing your focus. When you develop this skill, in turn you can attain a range of benefits that include increased motivation to accomplish physical tasks and the ability to tolerate pain or anxiety more easily. Self hypnosis also shares similarities with meditation because both involve entering into a relaxed state but it has some key differences such as using mental imagery that are not used when meditating. The main advantages of utilizing self hypnotism techniques are getting better at focusing on specific aspects while remaining calm and being able to achieve personal desires.

Save the tips in the attachment section of this post to your camera roll to use as a guidance for your first self-hypnosis session!

A good and well-needed sleep is important to function at our best. In traditional Chinese medicine, insomnia may be caused by external factors such as poor diet and environmental stressors. But it could also come from inconsistencies in the function of internal organ systems like blood circulation or digestion. By using herbs and acupuncture our body can work with natural forces to promote balance between mind, heart, liver/gallbladder-spleen (GBS) system which will allow your whole self, including physical well being, a greater peace of mind!

Acupuncture can help us sleep better by calming the mind, relaxing muscles and promoting the production of natural melatonin in one's body. Acupoints stimulate brain activity, which helps decrease anxiety levels and increase relaxation. There are several different types of acupuncture that have been found effective for treating sleep disorders: manual acupressure stimulation through pressure point massage or electro acupuncture with needles.

Acupuncturists also recommend using common herbs such as jujube, lingzhi mushroom, honey dried longan or chamomile tea which have medicinal properties like nourishing associated organs or having nerve relaxing effects for treatment of insomnia symptoms.

The Power of Qi Gong: Ancient Chinese Movement Practice

Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese practice that is about 4,000 years old, it is similar to Tai Qi, except without a martial arts aspect. It centers around traditional Chinese medicine principles and the concept of qi or energy in the body. Everyone has qi/lifeforce energy flowing through the body and it must flow unimpeded for optimal health, Qi Gong helps to unblock the energy or qi where it has become blocked or stagnant helping the body to heal and maintain homeostasis.

There are many different forms of Qi Gong that all use breathing exercises and poses (some moving and some not) to enhance the qi and keep it moving. I personally do Crane Style Qi Gong. It takes about 10 minutes a day and has many health benefits. Some of these benefits include better digestion, increased energy, better sleep, more balanced moods, and increased clarity and focus among others.

What was your experience with practices such as Tai Qi and Qi Gong?

The Spleen and Heart Meridians: Refreshing Herbal Summer Drinks for this Heat!

The Baltimore humid midsummer heat is upon us in full force! It is essential to stay cool, have cover from the sun exposure, and stay hydrated as much as possible. The Spleen meridian governs these current seasonal transitions, ā€œlong summer,ā€ is the period between summer and fall. If Spleen runs out of vital energy, Qi (ę°£), it starts taking away Qi from the Heart, resulting in a general feeling of fatigue which may lead to Heart Blood deficiency. In traditional Chinese medicine there is a recipe for herbal drink that can nourish the Spleen and Heart. The formula is called Gui Pi Tang, the recipe as follows:

6-19 g organic codonopsis root (é»Ø參 dang shen) or 3-6 g Red ginseng root (äŗŗ參 ren shen)
9-12 g organic astragalus root (黃芪 huang qi)
9-12 g organic atractylodes rhizome (ē™½ęœ® bai zhu)
6-9 g organic d**g quai root (ē•¶ęø dang gui)
9-12 g organic sour jujube seeds (酸棗仁 suan zao ren)
6-9 g organic longan fruit (龍ēœ¼č‚‰ long yan rou)
9-12 g organic poria fungus (čŒÆč‹“ fu ling)
3-6 g organic polygala root (遠志 yuan zhi)
3-6 g organic aucklandia root (ęœØ香 mu xiang)
3-6 g organic licorice root (ē”˜č‰ gan cao)
5 pieces organic fresh ginger root (ē”Ÿč–‘ sheng jiang)
1 organic jujube date (大棗 da zao)

Simply cover herbs with one inch of water, bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain the herbs and let it cool before use. There is another simplified recipe called ā€œfour gentlemenā€ that is using ginseng root (äŗŗ參 ren shen), atractylodes root (ē™½ęœ® bai zhu), poria fungus (čŒÆč‹“ fu ling), and licorice root (ē‚™ē”˜č‰ zhi gan cao).

There is also a cooling herbal drink recipe using western herbal nervines which help stabilize emotions and activity level! Steep the herbs listed below and enjoy as a refreshing alternative to sodas and caffeinated beverages.
Rose petals (Rosa, Rosaceae)
Tulsi(Ocimum sanctum, Lamiaceae)
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis, Lamiaceae)
Chamomile flowers (Matricaria recutita, Asteraceae)
