Mental Health Check-In: Time to Slay (In a Healthy Way)
Taking care of your mental health isn’t just a vibe—it’sa full-on slay. Here’s your reminder to check in with yourself and keep your mind as sharp as your outfit on a Friday.

How to Slay Your Mental Health This Week:

1. Hydrate and Slay: Your brain needs water to function. Coffee is iconic, but H2O is essential.
2. Sleep = Slay Fuel: 8 hours of rest? That’s the real power move.
3. Walk It Out, Slay It Out: Even a 10-minute walk can reset your mood and boost your endorphins. Sidewalk = runway.
4. Unplug to Slay: Logging off for a bit = maincharacter energy.
5. Talk It Out, Don’t Tough It Out: Therapy, venting to a friend, or writing it down—whatever works for you, do it. Mental health is peak slay behavior.
6. Breathe and Slay: Meditation isn’t just for monks. Deep breaths = deep slay.
7. Boundaries = Big Slay: Saying “no” is not rude, it’s radical self-care. Protect your peace.

Remember: burnout is not the vibe. Protect your energy, take breaks when needed, and slay responsibly.

Signs of a high functioning depression...
* Checking off daily tasks takes enormous effort.
* Hiding true feelings from loved ones can manifest as headaches and stomachaches.
* Self-medicating with substances like alcohol
* And here’s the high-functioning part: Despite persistent sadness and symptoms of depression, you can still knock out work and maintain your relationships — but it takes a lot out of you

Filling the void” refers to compensating for something that is missing or lacking in one’s life, often an emotional emptiness or loneliness. This is achieved by introducing something new that brings fulfillment or a sense of completeness. The replacement could take the form of a person, an activity, a new relationship, a hobby, or even a spiritual connection, depending on the specific nature of the void being addressed.

Eating clean can have a profound impact on mental health, offering a range of benefits that enhance overall well-being. When you choose nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, you’re giving your brain the fuel it needs to function optimally. This kind of balanced diet can help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, avoiding processed foods and excessive sugars can prevent spikes and crashes in energy levels, helping maintain a more stable mood throughout the day.

Mental Health Moment: Holding It Together (Barely)
Sometimes mental health is less about thriving and more about not sobbing in the breakroom over a poorly microwaved lunch. If you’re just trying not to break down this week, you are absolutely not alone—and honestly? That’s still a win.

Tips for Staying Semi-Functional When You’re on the Edge:

Deep breaths: Not because it fixes anything, but because yelling in public is “frowned upon.”

1. Hydrate: Tears don’t count. Try actual water.
2. Power pose in the mirror: You may feel like a mess, but you look like someone who’s got it together, and that’s half the battle.
3. Lower the bar: Today’s goal? Shower and answer one email without screaming internally. Slay.
4. Laugh at something dumb: Your brain deserves a break—and memes are cheaper than therapy (but maybe do both).
5. Text a friend: “Hey I’m spiraling :)” is a complete sentence.

Just remember: You can be falling apart a little and still be doing your best. Cry if you need to, scream into a pillow, take a walk, and then come back swinging—with coffee and slightly unhinged optimism.
You’ve got this (ish).

Back-to-School Mental Health Reminder: Heal So They Don’t Have to Hurt

As we send kids back to school—new backpacks, sharpened pencils, and growing nerves—it’s a good time for parents, caregivers, and adults to check in on their own emotional wellness. Because sometimes, the first bully a child encounters isn’t on the playground—it’s an unhealed parent at home.

This isn’t about blame—it’s about awareness and opportunity. When we recognize our triggers, trauma, and patterns, we can break cycles and give our kids the emotional safety they deserve.

Here’s how to show up differently this school year:

* Check your tone: Discipline isn’t disrespect. Speak to your child the way you wish you werespoken to growing up.
* Regulate before you redirect: If you’re feeling overwhelmed or reactive, pause. Kids mirror your energy more than your words.
* Unpack your own school scars: If school was hard for you emotionally or socially, be mindful not to project that onto your child. Their story is not your story.
* Model emotional intelligence: Talk about feelings, even uncomfortable ones. Let them know it’s okay to not be okay—and how to cope.
* Create a soft place to land: When the world feels harsh, home should feel safe. Be their anchor, not another storm.
* Ask yourself often: Am I parenting from my pain or from my purpose?
* Remember: your healing is their protection. This back-to-school season, let’s raise emotionally healthy kids—not just well-behaved ones.

All jokes aside,

Don’t take it personally!

Research indicates that a person’s upbringing plays a crucial role in their mental health. Early childhood experiences have a significant effect on brain development and can influence mental well-being throughout a person’s life. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) such as trauma, abuse, or neglect can raise the likelihood of developing mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

All jokes aside,

Adequate sleep is essential for maintaining good mental health. It enables the brain to process emotions, consolidate memories, and regulate mood, while also reducing stress and enhancing cognitive function. In contrast, lack of sleep can adversely affect mood, increase irritability, and contribute to the onset or exacerbation of mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
