The countdown has begun! We leave for Honduras this month and could still use your help. We would appreciate any and all contributions, no matter the size so that we can obtain/achieve the following:

- Various medications such as pre-menopause ($30 for a month), pediatric asthma ($20 for inhalator), hypertension ($40 for a month), and diabetes
- Workshops for students in the Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Honduras
- Eye drops and lenses ($50)

Team OCHO wants to show our gratitude for all of your support this past year. This Giving Tuesday, we are shifting our focus to the 2025 Brigade and making it even more impactful. As we close out the year, we hope to raise funds in order to:

-Offset travel costs for interpreters or other brigade volunteers for whom the brigade cost may be a financial hardship.
-Offset cost for the salary of Dr. Patrocinio, our Honduras medical director and liaison.
-Facilitate training for Honduran students completing their rotations in functional therapy.
-Purchase eye clinic equipment and resources.

Our first feature from this year's brigade! The new eye clinic, which offers optometry as well as ophthalmology, is up and running. We thank many people, including the Miami Eye Institute for their donation, Dr. George Duncan for his donations of equipment and expertise, Dra. María González for her donations of equipment and expertise, Maddie for technical assistance and training during last year's OCHO brigade, for joining the team to keep the eye clinic running, and of course, for securing a permanent location for the clinic and hours dedicated to receiving training and making it all come together. ¡Gracias! Nos vemos ;)

¡Primer "feature" de la brigada del 2024! La nueva clínica oftalmológica y optometrista ya está en operación. Tenemos que darle las gracias a un montón de individuos, instituciones y asociaciones. Queremos subrayar la ayuda del Instituto de Ojos de Miami, Florida, al Dr. George Duncan por su tiempo, sus donaciones de equipo y experiencia, a la Dra. González por su tiempo y experiencia - y su energia infalible - y por sus donaciones del equipo, a Maddie por su ayuda técnica y su capacitación durante la brigada del 2023, a Karla por juntarse con nosotros para este proyecto, y, por supuesto, al Dr. Patrocinio Sarmiento por haber asegurado un lugar permanente para la clínica y por las horas que ha dedicado a su capacitación. ¡Gracias! Ayer nos reunimos con los oficiales de San Vicente y de algunas de las comunidades cercanas - Arada, Nuevo Celilac, Níspero y el coordinador del MUNASBAR. Hoy nos reunimos con los médicos generales de Arada, Nuevo Celilac, Atima y Concepción del Sur. Discutimos el éxito del programa de teleconsultas con la Dra. Samara, médico general de Concepción del Sur, que cuenta con la colaboración y mejora el seguimiento de los pacientes en su comunidad. Hicimos énfasis en la importancia del saber cuáles son las necesidades que existen en las comunidades para poder servirlas lo mejor posible. ¡Anda, colaboración!

Yesterday, we met with officials from San Vicente and some of its surrounding communities: Arada, Nuevo Celilac, Níspero, and the coordinator of the MUNASBAR. Today we met with the medical directors of Arada, Nuevo Celilac, Atima and Concepción del Sur, which depends on collaboration and improves the follow-up of patients in the community. We emphasized the importance of knowing what the needs are in each community in order to serve them as best we can. Let's go, collaboration!
