I’ve gotten pretty good at vulnerability when it comes to sharing my scars and struggles, but sharing my hopes and dreams?? That’s just terrifying. If I express all of that to “you” and then miss the mark somehow… well, then I’m an absolute failure. At least that’s the anxious story my mind sends rippling throughout my nervous system. The same story that keeps me small. Anyway, here goes…

I see myself growing a global community through my book, meditations, music, outreach and the healing therein. That’s the path I’m walking… or at least trying to walk when my mind isn’t getting in the way. It’s safe to be small. It’s also suffocating. I’m ready for something more.

Starting this August, I’m launching a weekly meditation & breathwork group every Tuesday at 6pm (on Zoom). Each class allows for open conversation around the mental-emotional challenges we all face while navigating life’s ups and downs, followed by a science-based meditation and breathwork practice to improve your mental health and support your nervous system.

You’ll get a recording of each week’s meditation to assist you on a daily basis, and we’ll learn a new breath technique each month. This group will not only teach you how to meditate, but also offer the accountability you need to stay consistent with your meditation and breathwork practice so that you can tangibly improve your mental health.

For those who don’t know me—this work is personal. I’ve navigated my own struggles with depression and social anxiety, and the very practices I’ll be sharing are the ones that helped me heal my brain, regulate my nervous system and transform my life experience.

Thanks for capturing this photo from today’s Power of Expression assembly at Harford Tech. Repeatedly sharing the story of my father’s struggle with depression and its culmination in su***de is challenging, but it also gives me the opportunity to recount my healing journey and work towards destigmatizing depression and anxiety in the process.

Earlier this week, a parent at St. Mark’s reminded me that our true measure lies not in what happens to us, but in how we respond. I’m proud of my response and that of my family and bandmates. My darkest day became the foundation upon which I rebuilt myself and my life in ways I never dreamed possible.

Please remember, no matter what you’re going through, your darkest days can lead to your greatest strengths—it all begins with love. Embrace yourself and your life as they are, not as you wish them to be. True transformation emerges from that kind of vulnerability.

I started this channel to (1) share proactive mental health insights and guided meditations with various folks we connect w/ through the Ed Lally Foundation and (2) build a community in advance of releasing a book I've written called "The Lost Way Home". Unfortunatey, YouTube has started placing pop-up ads on the videos, specifically the guided meditations. As you can imagine, an intrusive ad popping up in the middle of a guided meditation is less than ideal for those using the vids to help relax/cope/heal.

The good news is that when I reach 500 subscribers (and 3k “watch time” on the vids I've posted), I’ll have the ability to remove those ads. Check out this quick talk on YouTube (link in comments) exploring how repressed anger can fuel depression and why healthy expressions of anger are essential for emotional healing - including some simple strategies I’ve used to let go of my depressive tendencies.

Usually, questions from students in classes and workshops fuel these sort of conversations - bringing it online is new to me, so please let me know what you’re interested in exploring! Healing is more than possible, with a few simple, consistent changes to your daily routine, healing is inevitable!

For a few years, I’d guide a “Yoga Nidra” meditation for a room full of folks every Thursday night at Love Evolution Studio…then covid happened and the Ed Lally Foundation gained momentum and I had to let those classes go. I still have the opportunity to guide Yoga Nidra’s now and then through my meditation groups & classes with the foundation and at Salt Works Spa but I feel compelled to share the practice (and other meditation approaches) with more people, so I’ve started offering them through my new YouTube channel The Lost Way Home (link in bio).

If you’re unfamiliar with the practice, Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) or NSDR (non-sleep deep rest) is the MOST accessible style of meditation, especially for people with a mental health history like me. For starters, no fancy meditation posture is required, you just lie flat on your back with a pillow underneath your head and maybe another pillow or two stacked underneath the backs of your knees to relieve the pressure on your lower back. Beyond that, there’s no single point of focus for the duration of the meditation, instead we keep our monkey minds engaged with a variety of mindfulness techniques and breathing practices.

I just posted a new yoga nidra on The Lost Way Home youtube that I recorded during my Monday meditation group earlier this week. It’ll help you find some relaxation, peace, and start to clear out some self-limiting beliefs that are keeping you from feeling seen, heard, valued and loved like you deserve. I know that’s a struggle for many of us, it’s something I have and continue to consciously work through, thanks to the depressive history of my neural networks.
