This is what Food is Medicine looks like—locally grown, nutrient-packed, and straight from Maryland’s soil.

Another successful conference in the books for our THRIVE Food is Medicine team!
This time, we took on the Epidemiology Lifestyle Style conference in New Orleans and brought the heat with innovative strategies to tackle cardiovascular health disparities.

We presented and proposed impactful interventions focused on:
🥗 Promoting DASH diet adherence
🛌 Improving sleep habits
🏃‍♀️ Increasing physical activity
🩺 Encouraging regular screenings

Proud to be part of a team pushing for equitable, heart-healthy solutions!

“ Bunmi Ogungbe, PhD, MPH, RN, held the “Food as Medicine in the Black Community” summit at the Institute for Policy Solutions at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. The summit convened over 150 thought leaders and changemakers to catalyze conversations around integrating the cultural diets of African diaspora foods and promoting Black-owned businesses within the growing “Food as Medicine” movement. In this episode, Dr. Ogungbe discusses some of the key outcomes from the summit, her involvement in the movement, and future goals.

Dr. Ogungbe is a cardiovascular epidemiologist dedicated to using her clinical, research, and public health expertise to improve cardiometabolic outcomes among populations experiencing social marginalization. She collaborates on several community-engaged multi-level interventions leveraging digital technologies to improve hypertension control and management of chronic conditions. She is an emerging leader in community-engaged research seeking to advance cardiovascular health equity, both locally in the US and globally.”

💚foodie fact friday💚 did you know that flaxseeds are good for your heart? these tiny seeds contain 1) lignans which reduce plaque build up and 2) omega-3s which may be useful in treating arrhythmia you can add these to your diet by getting seeded bread or sprinkling them over your cereal

On Monday, January 21st, we proudly celebrate our Principal Investigator, Dr. Bunin Ogungbe, who was honored with the MLK Award! This incredible recognition highlights the vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to service and social justice that Dr. Bunmi Ogungbe embodies every day.

The $5000 donation to Community FarmShare and Care for Your Health is a testament to the impact of this work, and as a lab, we’re so grateful to be part of a team that continues to thrive under such inspiring guidance.
