Where do you drift off to during your acupuncture treatments? 🌬️

Prenatal massages can offer incredible relief and self-care during pregnancy. We also know they might look and feel a little different than the massages you are used to.

Anytime you book a prenatal massage at Mend, you have options for how to rest *comfortably and safely* on the massage table to protect you & baby.

We use bolsters and wedges to create safe side-lying or back-lying options.

Please refrain from booking until you are 9+ weeks and have had your first prenatal visit with your medical provider. 🀍

Lymphatic massage has been a popular topic on social lately. We asked Mend massage therapist Anya Sharif to tell us more about this technique.

Here's what your massage therapist wishes you knew about lymphatic draining massage:

πŸ’« It's not necessarily for everyone. It's best for chronic veinous insufficiency, injury recovery with stagant blood and lymph flow, or lipedema patients.

πŸ’« If you are a good candidate for this, you will likely need multiple sessions.

πŸ’« You will also need to pair it with additional care at home.

Wondering what to do after your acupuncture or massage therapy session? Here are a few post-treatment tips that apply to both types of sessions:

✨Rest. Let your body and mind soak in the treatment by taking it easy.

✨Avoid vigorous exercise. Rest your muscles and protect the energy your body is storing up.

✨Drink lots of water. Your body needs to rehydrate.

✨Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Allow your body time to rehydrate.

We feel your pulse in 3 positions on both wrists to assess:
- Depth
- Width
- Shape
- Rhythm
- Force

Each provider uses their findings to confirm or support treatment plans based on your symptoms.

Dr. Dexter shared that he looks for synchronicity between your pulse and the seasons, before and after treatment. Right now he anticipates a healthy pulse being deep and full of yin as it soaks in the final weeks of winter time πŸ₯€

Your providers get treatments too!

In this behind-the-scenes glimpse at Mend, Dr. Dexter Kendrick shows us his pre-shift ritual. His self-treatment includes the use of moxabustion, a warming herb made from dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) that for ease is applied here in an adhvesive form. Moxa helps to warm the body and encourage healthy circulation. Dr. Dexter uses ST-36 (four finger breadths below the knee cap) to promote the flow of Qi and Blood throughout the body and LI-11 (at the lateral end of your elbow crease) to clear heat in this treatment. πŸ”₯
